For the first morning in what seems like a very long time, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the forecast for the weekend is good.
Sadly, on Monday it looks like normal service will be resumed.

Going to tackle the lawns that we have not been able to cut for a few weeks dye to the rain.
They are 6-8" long and still wet - trying to think how best to tackle them!

A scythe or a heavy duty petrol strimmer first. Then get the mower out when it is down to a length where that will cope.

Thunderstorms? And the temperatures? 12C? My original plan for this weekend was to get a mini tour on the motorbike somewhere in Cumbria or North Yorkshire. Happily I didn't book anything based on the forecast a few days ago, because as you say it was supposed to be nice. Then it changed. So did my plans, and I am now in the Scottish Highlands, at Grantown on Spey. Heading home tomorrow to avoid the rain forecast for Monday. At least we got (or are hoping to get) 2 consecutive dry days at the weekend for the first time since about May. Seriously, I have been trying to get a road trip done since May but there hasn't been a weekend when one or both days hasn't been a washout. Actually there was, in July, but that coincided with a family wedding so I figured it wasn't a good idea to head off on a motorbike road trip.

Even on days when it has been dry the bloody wind has mostly been a ballache! Not sure if my memory is playing tricks with me but it feels like the shortest most blustery summer in years for me.

Todays forecast from midweek was rain in the morning , then by friday rain in the afternoon, yesterday was forecast rain overnight then when we actually got to today its now forecast rain for the early hours tomorrow just in time to go to work .

The predicted (by the Met Office) 4 day heatwave due Friday to Monday never happened.
Fri/Sat were ok - warm & dry.
Today (Sun) - wet start & very cool, slowly dried out but it has been raining steadily from 4pm.
Tomorrow looks abysmal.
A shabby performance from the Met Office as usual.

Well my 2 day motorbike road trip was excellent! 400 miles and NO RAIN. Some kind of record for me .
Yesterday I took the westerly route to Grantown on Spey, via Loch Lomond, Crianlarich, Killin, Loch Tay, Tummel Bridge, Calvine, and Aviemore.
Easterly route home today (Tomintoul, Braemar, Blairgowrie, Perth, Glasgow).
(Not bad for 25 years old. Had only done 16k miles when I bought it just over a year ago. Have added another 4500 since then).
I have something of a guilt trip for not going on a cycling expedition, but when you only get a window of dry weather for 2 days, you need to travel quickly to see more of the country.
