Where do you live and do you like it or not

In a village halfway between Barrow in Furness and Ulverston in Cumbria. Very happy here. By the sea and the Lakes. Hilly cycling which depending on the day is a blessing or a curse lol. Whichever way I head out on a ride I immediately hit a climb which is a pain...when the funds are better I may have to move to the top of one of the hills lol. I don't really do pubs or clubs so that's no biggy for me. Shopping is pretty dire but don't like that either so not a problem. Decent places to eat out locally so thats good. Our village has a particularly fantastic indian restaurant!!!

It was like that when I lived in Bridgefoot; uphill in every direction. The benefit of that is, the last leg home is always a downhill

I have to half agree with you there. East of the A10 is defiantly a dump. But West of the A10 is not bad at all, in fact there's some very nice areas around Oakwood, Winchmore Hill, Southgate!

I like Whitehaven, but it's full of jam-eaters... or is that Workington? I could never work it out. It's on the most beautiful side of the lakes too. I lived in Bridgefoot for a year or two; a tiny village at the A66/A595 junction... a junction with a wonderful view of Grassmoor, Grizedale Pike and whatever the one in the middle is... and it just gets better the closer you get!

Jam eaters are supposedly from Whitehaven as they are supposed to be too poor to afford meat. Quite an old name, I was born in Workington by the way, but moved away when I was young with my dads job so I do not consider myself a proper marra as everybody calls each other around here,well the men anyway. Came back to this area when I was around 19.

Bridgefoot is a nice little village know it well, used to take my cat to the cattery on Maron Lane. The village pub whatever it was called is now a house, like so many village pubs are now around here.

Scapegoat Hill, Huddersfield.

I love it. Great view, fresh air, in fact yesterday was 29 degrees in town but a far more bearable 25 up here. Close to some amazing bridleways, and every bike ride starts with a fast descent. We get some incredible weather effects.... we can get days where the whole of the valley/s below us fill with fog, but we're in bright sunshine, and it's a bit like being in a plane looking down onto the clouds. Bonfire night and New Years Eve means we get to watch literally hundreds of firework displays! It's not likely to flood.





Cons, there are some strange folk up here.... and every bike ride ends with a climb back up home. It snows here first every winter, and we have been snowed in for a day or two several times.

Barnet, lived here all my life. It used to be a small market town, by Royal charter, in Hertfordshire, on the border with North London, It got swollowed up into the London Borough Of Barnet in 1965. Now the market is a pale shadow of it's former self, there are plans to rejuvinate it. There are quite a few empty shops. On the plus side, it is 5 minuits cycling or 10 mins walking and I am into country lanes and tracks, or 30 minuits on the train and I am into the centre of London. There are some good pubs and resturants, and a Local Theatre, the Old Bull Arts Centre. On the whole it is not a bad place to live.

Lived in and around Newcastle (which I still love) for 15 years, with occasional stays in Tokyo, then 4 years ago moved to Canada for work reasons. We have a little house on an island and my daily commute is bike and ferry. There's a general store, a couple of bars, one of which has the best summer view of the sun setting over Lake Ontario that you can imagine and many lovely people. I don't think we'll be moving again any time soon. The worst thing about Canada right now is the depressingly stupid national government.

At the moment though, we are back in Tokyo until next April (I'm on sabbatical and doing research). Tokyo is my favourite city in the world for food, public transport, cycling and style. It's just very sticky hot in July and August...

Ah you see, if you were born in Whitehaven, the jam-eaters would all be from Workington.

The Dukes Head, used to live directly next door to it... had many a lock-in there, and Neil Diamond wouldn't thank me for destroying most of his songs on the karaoke!! Happy times, but much happier back in Lancaster.

South Woodford - London. Transport is quite good.
There are some ok local facilites but I wouldn't spend the day here.

Not far from Epping by bike or underground (~10miles).

There is the Westfield Stratford City shopping centre nearby with Cinema, Bowling Alley, Restaurants, and some shops.

On the underground (Central Line - Zone 4) it's around 30-40mins to Oxford Street, if I go that way.
Buses are fairly frequent into Central London, but take longer than the underground.

So, yeah, I have London on my doorstep, so there are some sights to see and some nice places to cycle, can't complain too much.

I was brought up in Suffolk and lived in Yorkshire for a short while before moving to London, so London can be a bit too hustle and bustle for me sometimes.

Bumping into local hero Johnny Dekka, who will ask for £2 (his rates have risen) or a fag.

The truly incredible sight of the high street emptying on a Friday/Saturday night at 10.30-ish, when everyone heads into town.

Two amazing Indian places, and also the best Chinese I've ever eaten.

Listening to 'Christine' going vocally mental about nothing in the care home over the road.

The ever changing bar, currently called Manhattan's, in which they have tiled just about every surface.

The Anson, which looks like the most threatening pub ever. It is not.

I live in the street I was born in. Pure coincidence.

For a number of years when we first moved to the 'sham we lived in a house on our street with a number in the teens. I found this too far to walk from the station so we moved 50m or so eastwards into single digit territory.

I guess that means I really, really like where I live.
