If I can't find a ride partner, I have a 65 mile loop out into the Kent countryside that I do. Been doing that for over 2 years now and still haven't got bored of it. It's got everything I need: Hills; scenery; cycling clubs to chase down

I ride to the shops, the park with my family, up and down the river, to wherever I end up really.
The children will ask where I'm going and I say "there and back"

What bike do you have, living in Brum you got access to the canals that can take you pretty much any where, lots to explore down the canals as well, Netherton tunnel for a start.

With two months of freedom the world is your oyster, I would be heading for a ferry port and going to explore mainland Europe, but If you are unable to be away overnight then perhaps geocaching would provide the incentive for you to get out and about locally on your bike.

@Kookas Where about in Brum are you? I'm in Solihull, I ride a lot out towards and around Packwood/Lapworth/Lowsonford/Rowington/Shrewley/preston Baggot/ I know you may have a few miles to do before getting to this area but there's some real splendid countryside on our doorsteps and the roads around those I've listed are nice and quiet. Inside the M40-A435-A46 triangle you cant go wrong if all you want 20-40 mile rides http://goo.gl/maps/7vvAQ . Sometimes I leave the Road bike and take my hybrid and do the bridal ways and tow paths around these areas and each time I stumble upon a little area I didn't know existed even the odd pub too which is nice for a cheeky pint and a lunch. Get out there, there is no excuse...

Get on a train to Ardrossan, ferry to Arran, cycle round to Lochranza, ferry to the Mull of Kintyre, cycle to Oban, ferry to Mull, cycle to Tobermory, ferry to Ardnamurchan, cycle to Mallaig, ferry to Skye, cycle to Uig, ferry to Lochmaddy, cycle to Stornoway (another ferry in there), ferry to Ullapool, cycle to John O'Groats via Durness, and then Wick, train home.

But unless you fancy taking a tent, accommodation would need booking ahead.
(I'd love to do that trip someday).

I am frequently asked "Where are you going?" I don't know but when I get back, I can tell you where I have been! My first decision is left or right? A right turn takes me on flat routes but a left sees me climbing hills. I normally stop for a coffee after about 30 minutes, I assess the weather and traffic. before deciding further. I have been here for almost 2 years and now have about 70 routes to choose from
I normally cycle alone - my route, my pace, I stop when I want to stop and turn for home when I want to!
Go out and cycle for pleasure not measure. Do not head for a destination but go in the general direction of ... If you decide to go to a particular place then 3 things may happen - you make it there and back and have a great ride, you do not make it and head for home disappointed or you make it there but struggle on the way back thus spoiling a good ride.

Moseley. I commute to Solihull, so that's not out of reach at all. Like the area, too.

A longer trek like the one Spinney mentioned would be pretty cool, but obviously with all the trains, ferries and the possible hotels, money would be an issue for me. Otherwise I'd love to go to the continent and see what it's like to ride in some of the cities over there.

I've got a new wheelset (Fulcrum Racing 5) coming in tomorrow too, can't wait. The crappy hubs in the T3's stock wheels have been giving me so much grief, so I'll be glad to leave that behind.

I just take any road that looks interesting, although many end at farm yards, but all adds to the adventure !!:hyper:

Two months of summer holidays for me now, so no more commuting. I want to keep riding, though, but it's difficult without a specific place to ride to, or something to accomplish. Where do you go on your rides?

Having only discovered Map my ride in the last few months i just keep extending out from my home in Kent. During those rides i have discovered a great flattish course that in totallity covers about 60 miles of fairly flattish country lanes so i wizz around different routes of that. When i get bored i will just keep extending out. Using MMR you can create courses within your rides to challenge yourself and beat your times.Just get out there and explore.
