Bimbling along ...
Talking about curries this morning and someone said the best they'd tasted was a Dal Bhat (rice and curry) whilst trekking in Nepal during their gap year.

What about you? Where did you eat the best curry you've ever tasted?

Some little back street place in east London. NOT Brick lane . we asked for " something you would eat" it was amazing. no idea what it was but it was spicy but not blow head off hot and very very tasty. mainly vegetables but with a little bit of meat.

Never been able to find it since . we call it Mr Benns curry shop now.

1 My daughter's friend's mum's house in Sutton - East African Asian Hindu vegetarian.

2=. Specially cooked breakfast @ Bentota Beach hotel Sri Lanka in 1982 with the kitchen staff peaking out of the kitchen in awe at the westerners who had requested Sri Lankan breakfast

2= Workman's caff, just round the corner from Bentota Beach

3. UK restaurant, Dishoom Covent Garden - the house black dahl is as good as #1 and the Pau Bhaji is to die for!

Probably my kitchen to be honest, but I'm not really one for travelling.

On board the mv Ardmore, a P&O tanker I worked on for 6 months 1980/81.
The crew were Indian and the curries they made were amazing. I regularly had curry lunch and dinner, despite there being other options. At the end of the trip I was diagnosed with mild colitis!

Closer to home, Glasgow has a good reputation for curry houses. The Shenaz is among the best IMHO..

The Kashmir, Bradford. Their chicken prawn massala is a winner.

The New Kabana, Huddersfield. They do a meal for four consisting of mixed barbecue, ( chops, wings, boti, seekh kebab), a lamb handi (on the bone slow cooked lamb), and chicken massala with tandoori
Roti and naan, all served on a thawa. It's seriously good.

My kitchen. Lamb leg on the bone cooked long and slow as a handi curry. Takes all day to cook, but cannot be beaten. Serve with home made roti. Recipes from a colleague's wife.

I love the buffet at Diwana's near Euston, I've been going in there from time to time since the mid 90s I think.

Galle, Sri Lanka. Went there to watch the cricket a few years ago and for about £3 you could get a dish with chicken or fish curry and about 5 other assorted dishes.
Some of those side dishes were a bit odd but most of it was amazing.
