I am tempted to pop the car in the boot and drive somewhere new for a nice (relatively flat and easy) 15-20 mile cycle, possibly with an overnight camp.

I live just outside Edinburgh, and woudln't want to go more than one or two hours away.

Where would you recommend?

Pop the Car in the Boot? In the boot of what?!!

Sorry Edinburgh is a bit outside my area of local knowledge so can't offer any route advice!

LOL in the boot of the car, so that I don't stick within my usual 20 miles of home, but actually go a wee mini holiday, and cycle while there.

That sounds lovely Snail, must look into that.

I popped out in my lunch-hour again today, just six miles, but so nice to be away from the desk. I'm now meeting with a friend on Sunday and we are doing a wee 30 miler, will be nice to have company for a change.

Loch Katrine is nice for a scenic cycle with virtually no traffic (private waterboard road).

You can park at Trossachs Pier and cycle to Stronachlachar at the other end of the Loch, which is 13 miles. There is a nice cafe for lunch and/or cakes at Stronachlachar Pier. You can then either cycle the 13 miles back along the Loch, or head back via Aberfoyle and over the Dukes pass.

That sounds lovely! Wish I could do that; the nearest I've managed was an evening blast from Grasmere, around Thirlmere and back a few weekends ago.

It's great for the kids, being virtually traffic free. We've done it as a family twice this year, and will likely do it again sometime soon.

Setting off this weekend for 2 weeks up in Perthshire, so will be cycling the lovely quiet roads around the likes of Loch Tay, Loch Rannoch, Loch Tummel, Glen Lyon etc... just got to avoid the big hills for the kids sake, although I'll likely venture out on my own for the odd detour up the likes of Glen Quaich, Schiehallion, and Ben Lawers

I rode around Loch Tummel, Loch Rannoch & Glen Errochty back in May - glorious cycling.
