The fields you can see in the background on the left of the picture are what the whole area was like when I cycled round there as a child.

Duly corrected for you.I didn't arrive in Coventry till 1973 so I don't remember the rotting fields...
As a young child I remember the regular drive from Stockport to Poulton-le-Fylde to visit my Grandma and we used to stop off in Corley on the way home at a very nice ice cream shop. Then the motorway came along bypassing Chorley and there were no more ice cream stops.I predate Corley Services!
