Chester looks lovely I must say. My main problem is that the type of job I do is quite specialised and only available in the Investment Banking industry. I have just spent an hour looking at what is available outside the CoL and it would mean quartering my earnings.

There's investment banking goes on outside of London. Bristol, Norwich, Edinburgh...

Remember too, that housing and living costs are lower outside of London - often a lot lower.

Unless you're looking in parts of Norfolk where the likes of investment bankers from London have snapped up homes in Norfolk villages

Not everyone's cup of tea, but there are some really nice places in Sheffield (I'm biased, of course). HSBC have some big anonymous looking buildings with their logo on it, which anybody who doesn't work there doesn't have a clue what goes on there. I think it's investment banking related stuff.

You're on the doorstep of the Peak District and close to M1 etc. Plenty of parks and open spaces, shopping at Meadowhall w/free parking.

I won't go on, as you've probably already ruled it out due to it being too close to bonj.

but i'm moving outof sheffield soon
not that far away though and probably still popping back a few times a week.

very nice areas in the peak district, probably quite expensive though.

Where are you moving to? Maybe I could come and kip in your spare room for a bit? Bit of a break. I'd have a wife and kid in tow though but i'm sure you wouldn't mind that?

oh it's you that's moving.

I'm moving to somewhere probably around chesterfield or mansfield, somewhere that's got a garage and is a bit nearer to work.
I'm not moving yet but when i do it could be a possibility, glad of the company tbh
you could alternatively rent my current flat in the middle of sheffield and have it to yourself as my dad's hopefully buying it off me as an investment to let out.

Not relevant at all for people who don't want to emigrate, but I had to translate Melvil's comment -

I second Gavin's vote for Edinburgh Adelaide (not that I'm biased).

It's not too big but definitely not too small. Has one of the best arts festivals in the world (shame about all those wingeing londoners people from Melbourne that come up over and spoil it/are part of the reason it exists), tons of nice history [no convicts] and beautiful scenery. An hours ride drive south or north or west takes you to beautiful vineyards and countryside. It's cosmopolitan but not full of complete a$$holes who'd step over you if you were dying in the street like London Sydney.

It's a nice place. I live about an hour north just before the Barossa Valley.

But the bad weather nearly compensates for all of the above!
The complete lack of rain for quite some time is the bad bit

I hope not - being as 3 houses in my street are English holiday homes, and one is attached to mine. Don't want them accidentally burning my house down!

North West Wales is definitely the place to be. You might not have a corner shop, any reliable public transport but guaranteed you'll have at least two pubs. Being out in the sticks you rarely see a police car or any members of the local authority so can blatantly flout the smoking ban and any opening hour restrictions .

Drink driving is virtually mandatory, there are three Masonic lodges in every village, and if you want to marry your sister, then that's a matter for you. Truly, North West Wales is the place to be.

Don't forget, Dom's got to have a job to go to.
No use him just admiring the scenery in all these wonderful places.

Excellent, what are your nappy changing skills like? Do you like to read the same kids book again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again?
