My old man had one of these a Vauxhall Velox. Big bench seat at the front, wafting around Dorset fairly sedately (80 odd hp from a six cylinder?). The gearbox eventually destroyed itself in Brixham on the way to Cornwall, so not the best start to our summer jolies. Relaced by a more reliable Volvo 144, but not the same fun.

I remember they had a speedometer which looked like a horizontal thermometer. Quite space age for its time.

Nearly died in one of those in New Zealand. $150, and the brakes reflected it. Not much on the old manouevrability...lovely in a straight line tho'. Only three fwd gears I seem to remember.

My first car was a 1987 Vauxhall Nova 1.2, I loved it, felt like king kong in it. Then I started to get the modifying bug and promptly f**cked it up. You live and learn:laugh:

My first car. in about 1976, was a 1963 Pontiac Tempest. Four door hardtop. White with blue vinyl and blue tinted windows.

Ah, my first (legal) car

A W reg (1980) Renault 5 in blue. Bought it on a Sunday for £350 because I'd passed my test the day before and I started a new job on the Monday where I needed to drive. I'd only had one and a half lessons before my driving test (1hr on the Friday and 1/2 an hour before the test) so the 25 mile drive to Perth Theatre on the Monday morning was my longest solo drive. 956 glorious CCs if I remember right.

Rather oddly, my 'wish list' of cars from my youth, is fairly prosaic

If I discount the exotic/scary beasts, like the AC Cobra, it's almost boring

Ford Cortina (mk 1) estate - with the 'wooden' side panels
Volvo 'Amazon' estate (but also, a 2-door saloon)
Peugeor 504 estate (diesel!!)
Ford Granada Ghia estate (or maybe a Chasseur?)
Morris 1000 Traveller
Triumph 2500 estate
A proper Range Rover.... with vinyl seats, 2-doors, & the bonnet mounted (round) mirrors
For starters...………….

Now, I'm not a fan of M-B, as their last sports car I liked was the 'pagoda' roof SLs, & the 'Panton'(?) saollons)
However, I'd like a mid 80's W123; the estates with the colour-coded hubcaps, & thin, chrome roof-rails

Didn't you miss Renault Vel Satis off that list?

my dads white , with blue striping, Ford Escort RS1800 with twin OHC BDA works rally engine....always wanted that one.
Andy Wynn had an Escort Van with that engine transplanted in, he also had a chromed Jag back axle, 1 piece back door, Wolfrace wheels, bonnet scoop and Recaro seats fitted. It got stolen and then recovered and the Police said it had been stripped but he could have the remains back so after sorting it with the insurance he arranged for it to be returned to find they'd only nicked the bolt on bits and it still had the BDA motor and the back axle in the shell.

He made quite a profit flogging those. ^_^
