Both my bikes have KMC branded chains.
Road bike is 2 x 10 speed
hard tail is 3 x 10
As an official mechanical 'numpty' I want simple/easy to use
I know I can just call in at Halfords or Decathlon and ask but would then be stuck with what they stock.

Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
I think there's some love for Wipperman Connex in 10 speed. Beware the growing number of "single use" ones.

If you have KMC chains, you already have a split link I think. They come with a multiple use split link.

You are correct.............I checked them over and they do indeed have a split lint.
But (serious question as it's never happened yet)........it another link breaks do I not need to replace that with an additional link??
TBH I'm not sure why the KMC chains have the split link..........what use would that be if the chain breaks at another link ?

The split link is to allow easy fitting and removal, nothing to do with whether the chain breaks or not.

If the chain breaks (very unusual IME) you'll need a chain breaker with you to remove the broken link too. I carry the tool in a Topeak multi-tool and a spare link. The beauty of the link is that you can remove the chain in seconds for a good clean.

Right..............re' your previous comment I thought you were suggesting that because my chain has one then I wouldn't need another.
I now realise/assume you were simply telling me that if I wanted to see one then it's on my chain ??

Yes - sorry if I confused you. You need to carry a spare link for the size chain (9spd, 10sp etc) and a breaker. And I'll bet you'll never need it. But I also bet you will if you don't carry them ^_^

A KMC link is only a couple of £.

Fixed wheel fanatic.
Is the kmc missing link universal ie can I use it on a shimano or wipperman chain.
I have used one on a shimano chain - I beleive KMC make chains for Shimano. Just make sure you get the right size link for your chain.
I've also got one of these on my fixed (KMC snap on) it works well.
