I had the pleasure of spending about 30 minutes or so in the company of Bradley Walsh, stand up comedian and now game show host.

He was flying out of the Falkand Islands having completed a island tour for the troops and locals. Felt like sitting in the pub with my best mate who had been away for a while and we were catching up. Top bloke.

Been trying to think if I have met anyone famous...and struggled, but:

Chris Hoy, I have met him and a nicer bloke you couldnae meet. And I have met his dad on several occassions at Meadowbank track. He's a really nice bloke as well.
But that's about it.

I stopped the Queen Mum's car at a pedestrian crossing when I was still at primary school, me and my mate didnae notice her but our teacher saw us walking across kicking our football back and forward to each other as we crossed and said the Queen Mum had a chuckle to herself. But I didnae meet her. So dinnae read that bit as it's just waffle.

Gerry Anderson - met twice, nice quiet chap, bit frail now he's 80-something. We discussed how ITV ruined marketing his CGI show The New Captain Scarlet (get the DVD, it's brilliant). I never thought I would hear one of my childhood heroes use the F-word^_^
Met him and his wife about 6 months ago, we discussed dogs ... lovely fellow.

Was sitting at the same table as Bono in a pub in Belfast in the mid '80s for about 20 mins before I realised who he was. He was actually quite a nice guy and bought me and my mate a pint. He even wrote a note to my mate's girlfriend to explian why he was late meeting her.

Also met Ian Paisley a few times. Quite a funny man when he wasn't shouting at people

Ok then, I haven't read that bit about you stopping the Queen Mum's car when you and your mate crossed the road and were kicking a football and your teacher telling you the QM had a chuckle to herself.

The girl I was courting in the early 90s worked for Mo Mowlam for a while, so I got to meet her. I was a bit awestruck, tbh. Her first words to me were: "I've heard a lot about you." I think my reply was a feeble whimper. Really a truly lovely person though, very funny, utterly charming and frighteningly intelligent.

My brother worked for Mo Mowlem for a while and had the same opinion.

Played footie in the school yard with Mark Lawrenson - big headed peanut back then, but he was running rings round guys 2/3 years ahead of him.
Fondled Anna Ford's bum - better not go into details
Chatted to Roger McGough at a friends book launch - nice guy.
Walked into a wall at Schiphol Airport that turned out to be Ruud Guilet - he is a BIG guy!

Chris Evans (I expected him to be really short, I reckon he's 6'1", incredibly nice guy, stunningly astute though and a great taste in cars)

Billie Piper (simply the most beautiful person I have ever met)

B*Witched (I had all of them serenading me at 38,000 feet flying to Stockholm in '99, which was nice)

Once saw the Queen as a dot on the Britania as it sailed down the Clyde. I was about 5 at the time.

So pretty much as she normally appears now..

I did see Prince Phillip once in the 80's when he came to open the revamped university library in Manchester. Strangely he went in a side door and there was hardly anyone there. My main impression was that he was much smaller than I'd expected - a bit like a posh Albert Steptoe.

John Aldridge. He's a right greedy get.

I'm lurking in a corridor outside Tranmere's dressing room with some other lads. Surprisingly, a massive bowl of chips turns up in another small room just beside us. Nice gesture by the club I think and dig right in. Can't believe the others aren't piling in 'til I hear this unmistakeable voice behind me, it being the gunslinger himself: 'Ey, soft arse! Get your effin hands out my effin tea!'
