When I first saw this show, I thought "only in the uk". I.E. as if who your ancestors is who you are. However, I was wrong. I gather the US version is a bit of hit, and a couple of years ago, I kept hearing people discussing last night's episode. People I met, overheard on public transport etc. They love it there.

All white Americans came as immigrants from somewhere in Europe only a couple of generations back so Americans are very conscious of their recent history and the pioneer spirit is still very much alive in their minds, which is why they love their guns. Seriously.
