Every other visit (or so) I'll buy the head barman at the cricket club a pint. He's a good lad anyway and always ready for blether when it's quiet but my main reason for doing so is entirely selfish. When it's busy (and it gets extremely busy when there's an international fixture on down at the other end of Ropery Lane) I don't have to wait to get served as he'll pull me a pint as soon as he sees me.

No, he just gets the regular agreed amount from me

Would you fancy doing the job this time of year, through the Summer It is a great (ish) job but wet hands in the middle of winter.

Our guy cleans the front of the house, 3 big windows, the porch and front door for £2.50 once every 3-4 weeks.
We give him a tenner at Chriggy for a couple of beers.

Its not compulsary or expected as in America, try not tipping a cab in New York ! As I said before I've done most of the low paid jobs and relied on tips.I allways tip,not just to get better service but because usually I think the person deserves it.

I tip waiting staff, cabbies, and bellhops. Bellhops get a quid per bag, cabbies* a pound added on unless they are nobbers in which case they get nowt and I pay contactless which costs them 50p, and waiting staff 15% of the bill, if it doesn't already include an "optional" service charge. Which, if service or food is shoddy gets taken off, as, after all, it is optional.

*today our cab was driven by a very posh sounding, very striking, very well educated young woman.

No chance, they're all rip off merchants anyway

I just assumed the money they save in not paying tax or N.I. counts as their tip

I mainly tip -

Barber
Takeaway delivery people
Taxi driver

But even then not every time, depends on how grumpy I am that particular day.

Barbers & Hairdressers is an interesting one

Do folk also tip their nail technician, waxing person, eye brow threader etc etc

Yes...I know, wide open to "amusing" posts but it's a genuine question

My barber only ever asks for £10 when the price list says £12 but she justifies it by saying "You're a regular with a really easy cut 'three on top zero back and sides'" so I feel tipping at that point is a little odd.

Of course I do. Well I would if I used them.

Daughter number 1 owns a hair salon, and she tells me tips are almost routine. At this time of year regular customers quite often tip their favourite stylist £20 or more. The pickings can be very good, she says.
