I'm just back from a 22km ride. I took my Decathlon tourer/hybrid out and rode an urban loop through Headingley into Leeds then onto the Leeds/Liverpool where the tow path became quite hazardous because of compacted snow and ice. Pedalled on to Kirkstall and back home via hheadingly. There were one or two snow flurries but it was nice to be out and about.

Rode out to Wellesbourne airfield on new years eve and the ice and snow had gone. It was a normal ride, out with a tail wind at 18-22mph, home into the wind, grovelling along at 14-18mph. Good enjoyable ride, 48 miles, but hard work coming back. Today, news years day, the frost and freezing temperatures are back, the forecast is more of the same, we will have to watch out for ice on Sundays club run, and we might be thin on the ground if its to bad.

We managed to get 60 miles in yesterday, but no way was I going to attempt it today.

And like you say, the weekend not looking much better is it. ;)

Still I've got nearly a couple of hundred miles in this week, so I should be happy I suppose?

Went for an 18 mile spin this afternoon. When I started it was bright winter sunshine with barely a cloud in the sky.

However for the final few miles the sky suddenly clouded over and I road home in a serious blizzard - the snow was falling so thickly I had to keep stopping to wipe it off my glasses.

Went out today for the first run of 2010 and was it cold or what! It was minus 2C as Ileft home but with a light breeze and a brilliant blue sky. Did 15 miles and was glad to get home as I could feel the cold hitting my chest even through three layers. Good run though! Happy New year to all CC members wherever you may be!!!

I set out at 6 pm for a ride in the dark by the Thames. Only twelve miles, just above freezing, and with a big fat moon low in the sky. London was empty. Magic.

The road was starting to clear today and I`m thinking"maybe in the morning" and I just let the cat out for a pee at 12.10AM Sunday morning and it`s now blowing a blizzard:sad:

The 2nd ride of 2010
Just returned from a 38 mile ride - circular route around Higham / Upton / Shenton / Shackerstone / Market Bosworth and home
Lovely sunny morning - roads slightly frosty - no danger of coming off
Out again Tuesday,weather permitting.

Your take on the roads in that area were a bit different to mine, I did 44 enjoyable miles this morning dispite the roads being lethal, I posted about it on the Black Ice Thread and typed this.

Pretty lethal in the Coventry area today, Sunday, we had some rain yesterday and it froze hard over night. When I first went out this morning even some of the main roads were bad. I managed 30 mostly main road miles without problems before turning into Hoar Park

for a coffee and nearly went base over apex in the car park. main roads all the way home with no problems. Ended up doing 44 very enjoyable miles.

Found it was very bad around the market Bosworth battlefield and Shenton.

We had another 4 or 5 inches of snow overnight here and it's still snowing... I've been out running every day so far this year and my ice-bike is now almost ready - just had to get the low-temperature grease yesterday and today I will rebuild the bike with fully regreased parts. So it will be back to commuting tomorrow whatever the temperature and surface is like... Without wind-chill, it's only -5 today, but by the end of the month it will be consistently below -15 (plus the wind here can be strong...).
