<sigh> well, if you are going to exclude more than half the population of the world from consideration, then it's not that valuable a trophy anyway.
Aren't women also referred to as 'guy' these days? I've certainly heard mixed groups of people addressed as 'you guys' and women referred to as 'pal', 'mate', or 'buddy'.

Perhaps the brainiest guy in the world is Slavoj Zizek. I am never sure whether he is truly profound or just an entertainer.

In fact, I just watched the highlights of the London Classique and in the round-up Jill Douglas referred to Rochelle Gilmore and Chris Boardman that way!

English isn't even the only language where this phenomenon of addressing a group of people is happening where even all female groups are referred to by some informal male plural. It's got very little relevance to the thread though.

Wasn't Steve Hawking one of the brainiest people to ever live?

It was a response to this post, pointing out that the question in the thread title can't be assumed to rule out brainy women!

At the top level, men are intellectually more capable. Also better judgement. Women have a higher pain threshold and better endurance. Not sure how much truth there is in that tho, I imagine there are exceptions, there usually is.

"You guys", sure. Directly addressing a group is different.

But if someone said they were "waiting for a guy" would you for a second think they meant a woman? Or said "look at that guy who walked just in", would you turn around and expect (or even think it could be) a woman?

Pal, buddy and mate are not gendered, so they are irrelevant.
