I don't really want to buy another bike. I already have two, plus a third at my boyfriends for when he wants to cycle and my parents would kick me out if I get another LOL.

In honesty, I don't want to cycle to work everyday, otherwise I feel like I am all stinky and I am serving customers etc...I may try once a week...but the security side of it bothers me too much to do it

I've never been sure which is worse - dealing with the challenges some customers throw at you, or having no-one to deal with at all and the shift dragging on seemingly forever in front of you. At least when you've stuff to do the time feels like it's passing quickly.

Mind you, in a former life I used to get either Good Friday or "Easter Tuesday" off, split across the team for reasons that were never entirely clear. I always worked Good Friday - on the basis that most people assumed we'd be shut so it was a lovely quiet day to catch up on stuff and I could then use the Tuesday to recover from the Bank Holiday Monday...

Yeah, I might be complacent too. Re original post you have my sympathies. I used to work shifts in a contact centre and hated it when it was quiet. I did one 12 hour shift with one phone call. Its beyond tedious. On the plus though you're earning dollar and thats always good. Hope things pick up!

Thanks! Yes pennies are good, especially when I have duathlons and canicross events to pay for - as well as potentially new tyres etc. It all adds up!

I am currently writing out a stretching plan which incorporates all the things that feel good/ and not so good. Plus I will go to my canicross lesson tomorrow but will try and rest for this week - depending on the back pain intensity.

Exactly @User43827 ...I guess I don't like resting as I feel I will lose fitness etc? I need to look after my body more - it's why I am in this situation. I have only been running a year on the 8th April so I feel I have progressed pretty well. And I have been cycling for a few years.

The physio's opinion is that all this new found exercising and pushing myself more has only brought up these weaknesses that I wouldn't have known till now so it would probably have only been a matter of time before these niggles came about.

I feared I had Sciatica, due to location and similar pain pattern - he diagnosed it as pseudo- sciatica (false sciatica) and actually I have a pretty weak and tight Gluteus Medius - which is common with cyclists & runners.

This is all new to me and I am trying really hard to do everything, but I think these next couple of weeks need to slow down a little and spend more time listening to my body.

@User43827 - I just get so frustrated that I try so hard and always have some issue - I really do try and bounce back and a lot of people merit my attitude. I definitely want to keep yoga and these stretches as part of my daily routine. At LEAST once a day on physio's orders.

Sadly, as mentioned, my job is pretty sedentary - sitting at a desk all day with minimal movement does not help either. Which why I feel it even more important to get my stretching and stuff in.

Thanks everyone for your feedback

Is the chair part of the problem, being seated all day!

Probably! I just feel they won't listen if I ask for something different. Our chairs are high office spin chairs. Not great in honesty. I do try and get off the chair now and then and do some stretches and wiggle around.

This what I have at work:

Maybe check out “access to work” they could help with workplace situation causing or exacerbating health issues.
Could do an assessment and recommend workplace adjustments. Possibly suitable new chair for you and/or other things
Best wishes xx

It seems to be a common problem with people that like to push themselves. You soon find the weakest link in your body, Unfortunately, it is difficult for people who like to exercise to rest their bodies, but sometimes that is what is required.
A friend of mine does a lot of running, cycling and swimming. He is always getting injured (stress fractures and achilles strain normally), even though he knows he needs to rest, and is always telling me not to push too hard.
