Funny how people remember it. I was 15 in '76, I wasn't interested much in music, I had liked The Sweet & Slade and knew I didn't like Rush or the Eagles that kids at school were now listening to. By that winter my hair was purple and my parents were going apes.h.i.t.
Punks were just as anal as the previous generations prog-rockers, good grief, I would not have been seen dead at a Jam/UKSubs/GenX/Stranglers gig, if you thought they were punk, you must have been really old, over 18 probably, I'd rather have been caught visiting a Racey or Brotherhood of Man gig. I recall a punk friend asking me (in all seriousness) if it was ok to like Cliff's "Devil Woman"? Was it feck = one less friend.
It was wild to see good groups being out of synch with what was going on, Dr Feelgood and Eddie & the Hot Rods were cool as feck, Monday, but has beens by Tuesday. They'd worn the wrong pants, or played a harmonica, there was no way back...........
In general, the music was s.h.i.t, it was good fun, winding up my parents I suppose the most fun. But there was no sex in the punk scene, not for me anyway.

I visited a (disco) nightclub, for the first time a year or so later and heard Donna Summers "I feel love", now that sounded pretty good, plus the women there were interested in me, must have been the eyeliner. Punk was dead.
