Many years ago staying at the Bentota Beach hotel in Sri Lanka, breakfast was the usual boring international fare.

We asked if, for out last day, we could have "Sri Lankan" breakfast.

The most amazing array of Hoppers and curries duly arrived - and the whole kitchen staff were peaking round the doors to see these strange westerners eating Sri Lankan food for breakfast, apparently we were the first westerners ever to ask for it. Very humbling but outstandingly good food!

Son back a few weeks ago from a school cricket tour to Sri Lanka. He said that the hotels all offered western style breakfasts but he was beside himself that they all had a "curry station". So he had curry every morning for brekkie.....which probably accounts for his poor cricketing performance

Waindell,
I lived in Madrid in the 1980s and some bars specialised in breakfast.

You could ask for a "completo" which was a coffee, massive brandy, croissant, cigar and a newspaper.
Masala dosa is probably my favourite breakfast dish ever.

Not much call for it here though.
Where do you get "Masala" version of the Dosa or is it some kind of regional variation

I've never understood 'food rules'. Breakfast to me is whatever I fancy, yes a traditional type is present in the house but if I really fancy something different, go for it!
Start eating cold ham and cheese and stuff and you're straying into the strange and dangerous waters of the 'continental breakfast'
Actually I don't mind that because the working week is tea and cereal so I like to have something different when on holiday.
Masala just means mix, you get a veg/dhal/potato thing served everywhere you get dosas as far as I know.
Ok, thanks.
