Why would you move to South?

This is not just a rhetorical question.
I have been living in East Midlands for last 12 years. I have good job, a home and I am quite happy here. But I am one of those people who does not want to work in the same place. I am constantly looking for other jobs, has set alert system to get notified of new jobs.
So I saw this advert for a job in Surrey. It can be considered a promotion but only in name. So I will get the same salary. I started looking for houses and realised that I can just afford a 2 bed flat if I were to sell my 4 bed house in East Midlands.
I can see that everything is expensive.
So why would anyone want to move south?
I feel the pain you must be in each and every day you wake up in the East Midlands. Never mind eh?

Interesting, we finally have a comment about cycling.
I spent the entire Saturday getting my bikes ready for the spring. If there is no better infrastructure for cycling, I am not going there even if they pay me more.

But my understanding is that area I am think about, Leatherhead, does not come under this category. Even if it does, it does not cover additional expenses.

But I am not looking at this entirely on financial terms. I just want to know why people pay extra to live in Surrey.
Because the earning potential and availability of job in certain sectors is higher. Plenty of folks living in Surrey commute into London for very well paid employment that may not be available (in such quantity) elsewhere

There's some nice areas for cycling not far from leatherhead, but the roads are packed with cars much of the time.

If you want empty country roads to cycle on, Surrey and certainly most of the bits around leatherhead won't be for you

How can a job higher at a higher grade than the one you do not come with a pay increase?on what basis is it actually promotion otherwise?

Perhaps I should look at this opportunity not just for me but for my teenage son. Right now, he is not looking for jobs but it will be useful for his future to have a place in Surrey as well. For me, right now, just a two bed flat is enough.

Make sure the schools provide him what he want. There are good schools and less good schools around Leatherhead and Epsom as there are in many places

I've lived in 'the South', i.e Gtr. Manchester, for 15 years now and the only direction I'd move next time is back North.

Too busy and too much air pollution here never mind further South.

What are they? Just list me please.
I have now heard about proximity to London and job opportunities in certain sectors.
What sort of things do you like to do? Closeby Epsom has a theatre and cinema, as does Dorking. Leatherhead has a decent leisure centre. There's plenty of green space but the roads around it are busy especially in rush hour and at weekends
