Anywhere else you can try getting Wifi, macdonalds or something. If it works you can point the finger back at works Wifi, if not, well, could be the phone.

Yep, tried Macdonalds WiFi with a Mcflurry for company (would have been rude not to) and it works fine so im pretty sure its not the phone.

OK, so you sure the Wifi is open? It may not be encrypted i.e. you don't need to enter a key but it may be set so that you need to register your phones mac address in order for it to let it through. That being the case, your phone would connect but not be able to access the internet. Maybe it knows about your old phone but not your new. How old is the router and who set it up?

The router is about 2 years old i think, 18 months anyway. A lad set it up who has a local business doing computer stuff and is a friend of my boss's son. Its just weird that my old phone has no problem connecting at all. I just know the problem is me, but I cant think what it is im not doing.(not that I know a great deal anyway tbh  )

It could be one of two things then Lisa and neither is good news (if I'm right).

1. When the network was set up, whoever did it added all the discovered devices broadcasting when he set it up, which included your old phone, hence it connects.

2. There are some reports on the internet of HTC phones not liking certain routers, like Belkin routers. If this is the case, you could prove it by borrowing another phone (not an HTC) and trying to connect. If it works then the problem is your HTC, If it doesn't then no.1 is most likely and you'll need to bribe someone to add your new phone ;)

If you have a wireless laptop take that in and see if that will connect or not.

Good idea Phil, worth a try.

I have a Belkin router and it works fine with my HTC.

Good luck Lisa, must be very frustrating, but shouldn't you be working not cycle-chatting anyway?

Ok just to add a couple of things:

1. I assume the wifi network you see at work actually belongs to work? Do you have an intranet? Does the work network expect you to access through a particular portal? For example our work network will not let you across it to the internet without going through its validation portal. Many hotel chains do this, it's the page where they get you to pay for access.
2. Being a bit lazy now but check that when you connect to the wifi network at work it isn't adding a proxy or expecting a proxy (if there isn't one). I could go and figure out where the setting is for this on a Desire but that would mean trekking downstairs and disturbing the missus to find her phone. You should be able to google how to check for proxy settings.

Hope this helps
