Wildlife and cycling

My best, and I had a camera to hand, was a trio of hares that were congregated in the middle of the road as I come over the brow of a hill. They sprinted off down the road in front of me for 100 yds or so and then one dived into the hedge on the right a second went into the hedge on the left and the third kept straight on for another 50yds or so and then went under a gate into a field. Cursing as by then I'd only just got my camera to hand I started to put the camera back in my pocket (This is not as dangerous as you may think on a recumbent trike!) only to have the first two dive out of the hedge on both sides of the road all of 5 yards in front of the trike, get to the middle of the road, jump in the air and disappear back the way they'd come. It was a lovely opportunity totally missed on camera but one I still smile at.

In the 1970s I killed a wabbit.

I was zooming down a long hill and it ran into my front wheel. I managed to not fall off, and when I got back to the scene of the accident bunny was dead. I think it may have had mixy.

IMO one of the pleasures of travelling round the lanes of Lincolnshire is the wildlife that you see, and would mostly miss if in a car. Recent spots incude a badger, buzzards, yellowhammers, many hares, etc. I had a near miss when a squirrel fell out of a tree onto the road, just in front of my bike wheels, it picked iteself up and ran off, all at great speed. My wheels crunched over the tree branch that also fell, thankfully no injury or puncture sustained.

Two squirrels ran in front of me today in the woods. Fortunately I wasn't going fast, there are often dog walkers around; one particular one I've seen a few times and he always says hello now

Had a badger run into my front wheel on a Sunday morning club run (sprinting through Cheshire lanes)
And ended up in a hedge in a bit of a state .. those badgers are big animals !

Yep! Big n hairy. Lots of muscle and claws. I'd be jumping out of the way too!

Silly Swans...

Just rode along a road which has resurfaced from under the floods - it still has huge lakes either side of it.

At least 2 pairs of swans are building nests on small islands which have formed.

They're in for a big shock! Unless of course they happen to know something about this summer's weather that we as yet don't.....

A couple of years ago in Mallorca I was riding down one of those gloriously empty country lanes they have out there.
I noticed this shadow alongside the bike and looked over. A hawk like bird [don't know much about hawks] was keeping pace with me. It just stayed about 8 feet from my shoulder. This went on for about a mile. I started to sprint and it just stayed there. The lane dipped and climbed and it still stayed there. Eventually it must have decided I was too slow and boring and it swooped off.
A wonderful experience. never known anything like it.

Suicidal pheasants lurking on roadside with intent.....
There's bats near me and they patrol up and down the track skimming your head
Had gang of partridge or quail walking down the road quite the thing.
Not to forget the aliens.......

I had a stoat or was it a weasel? run from a dry stone wall into my path the other day. It ran out i shouted "oi",it hesitated for a second then ran back to safety.
