@screenman, my wife had to have a new windscreen in her car recently and needs to stick the tag holders on, what's the best thing to use? The double sided sticky things she bought (can't remember what brand, maybe 3M, and weren't specifically for car windows) and used lasted about a day.

@screenman

I have used the 3M car window specific ones and you MUST follow the instructions fully. preparation of the glass is the key .

I think this may be part of the problem, it was a brand new windscreen but she didn't do anything to it before sticking the tags on. A wipe with meths before application might have helped.

not meths, meths is oily . Isopropyl Alcohol ((IPA ) NO @richp not that IPA ) is the best cleaning solvent readily available

I had a mini metro. Every time it got sunny the glue would melt and the rear view mirror would fall off. I never managed to solve the problem.
I had a car where the rear view mirror got knocked off. I got some glue specifically for sticking things like rear view mirrors to glass which was UV activated, worked a treat.

Nip back to the company who replaced it and get them to do it, or I would clean with acetone and have had success with the 3M jobbies.

Funny thing is UV does not go through windscreen laminate, if it did can you imagine how sunburnt most drivers would be.

Mostly the roof is what protects you. You only get the sun on your face in the early morning or towards sunset when the risk of burning is lower.

You are more at risk from the sun coming through the side windows, which is why this is a pretty common look in warm countries

Straddle the line, discord and rhyme
Richard Feynman famously observed the first atomic bomb through a truck windscreen since he knew it was opaque to UV and he couldn't be arsed with dark glasses.

Believe me I have tested the abi!ity of vehicle glass to let UV through many times, the amount it does let through will not burn you or allow uv resins to cure, now indirect uv is another matter.
