Winter socks

Just wondering is it warmer to get a good pair of winter cycling socks or a pair of overshoes

When I was a lot younger a cyclist I knew use to wear a pr of football socks over his cycling shoes in the winter

Overshoes would be my preferred option as I've always felt wrapping you feet to much can actually leave them colder as I seem to move them less. Winter boots is the actual way to go but overshoes is definitely the next choice.

For winter socks to work you need more losely fitting shoes. Close fitting summer race shoes dont have room for the socks to trap air.

I have several pairs of thick work socks I brought from a local market, I wear a pair of those with overshoes, my feet are cosy.

You're going to habe to experiment and see what works best for you personally. I favour overshoes, but many would sooner get the bus than use them.

Okay, back to the topic. I'd say both if possible. You probably have some thick socks that will be fine. If you have to prioritise get some Heat Holder socks or similar then get the overshoes if the socks aren't enough on their own.

I use Sealskinz waterproof socks. Due to the waterproof layer they keep your feet toasty in the coldest if weather's.
Pricey but worth every penny.

I can confirm getting the bus does warm up the feet better
