Woman attacked on cycle path, Renfrewshire.

An 18 year old woman was sexually assaulted at 3.20pm on Thursday on the cycle path between Johnstone and Linwood. BBC report.

Might be an idea to let your Belles know if they haven't already heard, @Pat "5mph" , to be careful until the lowlife is caught. It's only a few weeks since a pensioner was robbed of his bike on a path in Troon. A worrying trend, as both these paths are fairly regular on my routes.

I had a perv expose himself to me on a cycle path near the Helix not long ago. I did wonder about reporting it or not, but you never know where this sort of behaviour leads
The Police did a great job and he was caught and is being charged...apparently he has done this before but couldn't be ID'd.
I hope the young girl is okay and not too traumatised.

Well done, those sort of men often become emboldened by not being caught and move onto more serious offences to get their "kick".

I have cycled that path alone many times. Hopefully the attacker gets arrested soon.

What a horrible story. I'm out on my own quite often choose carefully where I go. I'm close to the cycle path that runs from balloch to glasgow but only do the busy part if I'm on my own. I'm lucky that I'm also close to the one that runs from balloch to tarbet and don't worry about doing that alone as most of it runs right alongside the very busy a82. Poor girl, hope they catch the guy

Slightly OT

We used to go out as a group from with several nurses

On guy stupidly exposed himself to one of the girls in a pub.

They waited until he was back with his mates, and went across as a group....

Then asked if they could all have a look as the first girl had never seen one so small, and they were refusing to believe her when she described how small it was...

Despite a lot of hectoring, he wasn't keen to show them, (which they were loudly taking as confirmation of how small it must be.

At this point most of teh Pub is sniggering away...... then he (and his mates) left

The other "perspective" on this is to remove the cycle connection.

We had an equally unfortunate incident on the cycle path that forms the spine of Gosport's network and there were calls for it to be closed. Partly because at the time it was a political expedient as it was earmarked for a Light Rapid Transit Scheme

However there had been three sexual assaults in the main High Street Area in the previous year, and no-one was calling for it to be closed.

The difficulty was defending the route in the local (anti-cycling) press,

A man has been arrested after the alleged rape of an 18-year-old woman on a cycle path in Renfrewshire last week.
The teenager was allegedly attacked while heading towards Linwood, on the path from Morrisons in Johnstone, at about 14:15 on Thursday.
Police said a 29-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident and would be the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal.
He is expected to appear from custody at Paisley Sheriff Court on Wednesday.​

Its a busy stretch of track particulary at that time of day - not just with cyclists but people out walking, going to the supermarket, going / coming from school etc.
