Wondering whether to make the switch to SPD-SL pedals and road shoes.

I can't see any advantage of SPD-SL platform type pedals.
There isn't one these days (if there ever truly was) Shimano for example offer SPD shoes with all of the features of the equivalently priced road shoes (RC7 and XC7 I was looking at)

The only real consideration then is which cleat, SH56 will release twisting to L or R, the SH51 releases heel out - which is not a choice that comes with SPDSL

Mentioned this is another thread, Shimano make SPD adaptors for three hole road shoes, ones with mouldings to allow you to walk and another type without which are probably only suitable for use use with shoes put on next to an indoor trainer.

I've never tried SPD-SLs either but I do find I have real trouble clipping into my SPDs with my shoes that have protruding cleats, whereas my shoes that have recessed cleats (I guess pure MTB shoes) I click in straightaway without looking. That's put me off ever trying SPD-SLs lol.
