I rode into work today, it was lovely! Super warm weather, dry, and it was so nice to be back on the bike again after my enforced stop due to the sprained foot. Weirdly, cycling is almost pain free, much much better than walking! Unfortunately skating wasn't so good, I probably shouldn't have.

I had a great time cycling though, I went a different route that has more time in the country lanes. I caused a horse to bolt when it saw the recumbent, but luckily no harm done and the rider soon got the beast back under control. They came out of a side road, and the horse just freaked as it saw my bike. Stopping and talking to the horse didn't do any good this time, it was already gone. Not my fault, but I did feel a little bad about it.

Then I got to tantalise some roadies, they caught up to me on a slow section where the road is treacherous with skog (TM), and then the faster one of the two decided to sit on my wheel and see how he could keep up. Being a meanie, I slowly ratcheted up the speed over a mile or so until he blew up complaining there was no draft behind me. Of course I held back and went only just faster than he could manage, so he'd think he nearly had me, and I got to do it to him all over again after the next set of traffic lights.

I've got flue or something.Hope I can cope with the ride in on Tuesday.

Congrats BM.

LOL! That's cruel, Mikey! I have to admit, it's fun, though! I like to catch up with them, then pull alongside and start casually shooting the breeze about how nice a day it is for a ride, what a cool-looking bike they have, etc. They HATE IT when an old fat man in blue-jeans and sneakers, kicked back in his comfy chair rides up next to them like that! Sometimes, I'm tempted to offer them a fag, (even though I don't really smoke.)

Glad to hear that you're all recovered!

Glad your foot is better and you can ride again BentMickey, I didn't realise you ride the bent because you can't keep up with real cyclists on real bikes;)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you said, not your fault.

Good that you showed concern though, even though the horse didn't hang around to discuss the matter!!

I am ALWAYS wary of horses. People say they are trained to be on the road and BOMBPROOF. They might be used to traffic, but what use are they if they're scared of a carrier bag blowing past?

Yeah, though I can't blame horses for being scared of a recumbent. It's low, has leg movement that doesn't look that far from a stalking cat, and is usually fast. I often slow down or stop and talk to the horses, and most then realise that I'm a human after all. Another good strategy is to sneak past in a pack of regular cyclists.

The horses in Hyde Park where I work almost all know me and the bike now, and are no longer worried.

Horses scare me so im always wary of them out on the road (always scared they may get startled and bolt). That Police Acadamy clip of that police office on his motorcycle thingy still makes me laugh though

HaHa-you met my ned then!! Tbh, NO horse is "bombproof" and on a bike your a wee bit vulnerable if one takes a dislike. I always prefer to be ON a horse thats throwing a wobbler rather than near it-much safer up there out of the way:biggrin:
