I get the same.

"Why do you ride the long way?" Then it twigs... "Ah just because you can".. some of them are starting to get it, most of my colleagues don't have much against cyclists, just think it's bonkers riding xx miles.

The person I saw yesterday for acupuncture, even said "Have you ever thought of doing less, with all this bombing around on a bike, a full time job and a young family" - I think my face told the answer way before I said "Erm, I'm actually not doing enough at the moment" "Only 5 days a week, 20-30 miles a day - not getting out at weekends much !" I did have to say we cyclists are a bit 'bonkers'.

I still love the

" why ride 30 miles before work "

Followed 10 mins later by

" god I wish I was fit/healthy enough to do just half what you do ". ( the second is normally said whilst eating junk food at 9am )

 ......did I ever mention just how much I love my cycling life ?

If they work with you Gaz, and still don't realise that they CAN be fit/healthy enough to do what you do, then there's no hope or them.

These made me laugh because I don`t get any of these comments.

I ride my 22km into work and am there for 6am and then I ride home. My collegues and friends are always interested in our cycling holidays or new gear we have bought.

Everyone loved my ICE trike and wanted to have a go. They were not too keen on the Bacchetta recumbent bike but liked the design.

They think our electric bikes are a blast and everyone wants to borrow them.

So why is it so different for me? It is because I live in Denmark and most motorists are also cyclists. There is a large part of the population who have bikes, as opposed to cars.

Cyclists need to look after their own house. Ride with lights on and vis vests in the dark, get off the pavements, stop jumping red lights follow the rules of the road. If you don`t sort your own house out you will still be reading all these negative comments in 20 years time.

I Cycle to college wearing a base layer long sleeved top, tights, bibs and a helmet. Just wear a thin windproof coat over your base layer, I personally wear swimming shorts over the tights and my helmet goes in my pannier. My college is full of scally chavs doing construction or something like that and they don't bother. It's probably just you thinking they'll laugh, when they probably don't even notice.

Well I never! Mine was leaving a hospital.

He didn't like me showing this:

I can see why he didn't like you showing up his RLJing. Maybe he confused the brake with the accelerator?
<Irritated drivers: "What? Are you suggesting drivers are not allowed to do this? But we pay Road Tax and you bloody cyclists don't...">

Re the embedding issue. Instead of using this option on YouTube and Vimeo I prefer to just copy the HTML link and then apply this to some text using the 'insert/edit link' option on the toolbar at the top of any message. IMHO this is neater and also means people replying to you don't keep re-embedding the video.

For example:

Here is a link to a video of mine where some old codger pulls out from a car park onto the main road to turn right as I am approaching at speed. To make things worse he does this from a left turn lane, having had to move around a car which was positioned correctly to make the right turn in front of him. Shouldn't be on the roads!

Cheers anyway

Alright, @middleagedcyclist, you've made your point - 4 times! (duplicates now deleted)
I prefer embedding, as I don't need to click away to another website to view the video. But I also agree about the quoting problem you describe.

What would be really handy would be if the forum automatically turned the

tag into a
Code:
[url]
tag when being replied to.

Ahh. The new CC is a bit buggy at the mo'. My post wouldn't submit and I kept getting an error message. So I tried again. Then they all appeared at once. Then it took 20 mins to delete the extras!

Your suggestion to change media tags to URL tags is a good one. I don't think it would be straightforward though as a reply starts with just a verabtim quote. I'm certainly not a HTML expert so I'm willing to stand corrected.

Anyway, back to stupid things work colleagues say.

Them: "What? You cycled in this morning? But it's very dark."

Me: "Well yes but I'm covered in reflective stuff and have lots of nice bright lights. Did you not see me when you passed me at the junction?"

Them: "No. But I don't see very well in the dark and I've left my glasses at home"

Me: Silent stare of amazement
