Yet another reason not to ride in the gutter, had quite a few of these on my old commute.

Sadly we seem to hv lots of similar 'vertical' grills here where i live and some are even laid right across the width of the road…..totally hazardous for roadies, and sometimes u wonder what are these people thinking??!

Most grids in UK are either diagonal or horizontal.
I imagine the grid in the photo has been removed and replaced incorrectly by a contrcator.

It's in Canada rather than the UK and it doesn't look square so I can't see how it would fit the other way round. But it does look horrid

Yes. I sent that picture to the Mayor's office and they had it replaced in two days.

For sure. ...but if it's wet and dark and you find yourself unexpected pressed by traffic, you need every inch...

That's really horrid. I wish I had a picture of the pothole on the north-bound side of Putney Bridge, last January. Whole civilisations disappeared into it.

There is at least one like that on my commute and a few on one of my training routes. But not being a gutter rider I haven't been caught by them
