We are looking for the worst band ever.

And that is Coldplay.

Except for the fact that you are wrong. I've already done said, Queen are, and for the reasons described.

When you start talking about Fleetwood Mac and Elton John it's just getting silly. Anyone who could consider 'Goodbye Yellow Brick' Road and 'Rumours' anything other than brilliant albums isn't worth listening to. The quality of both the song writing and musicianship on both is superb and seldom equaled these days.

I'm not in a position to contradict you, as I've never managed to stay awake long enough to finish either album.

Though I do have a penchant for Fleetwood Mac in the original incarnation - they were a very decent blues band in the late 60s.

There are some good bands being named here - we need to try and be subjective, there are some bands out there which I can't stand but still appreciate the fact that they're good (be it musicianship or songwriting etc. etc.).

However, I have to agree with Coldplay. A band with no redeeming features, their albums are so amazingly monotonous that you could start a metronome at track 1 and it would still be beating away in time by the end of track 12 and no noticeable change in dynamics to prompt you to believe that there were 12 separate songs on there.

Look, Coldplay are just dull, there's nothing especially bad about them. And Queen were the greatest stadium rock band of all time. Fact.

It's the Arctic F'king Monkeys by country mile.

Re: Coldplay slagging. That's better. We need more venom and bile here. Get into the spirit of the occasion. Just naming a band isn't enough (let alone defending bands - that's not the point at all... otherwise I'd be singing the praises of Grandaddy), we need reasons... remember this, whichever it is, is the band that makes you want to renounce your humanity, curse civilisation and the evolutionary process that spawned fingers that could play musical instruments. The Oasis one was good!

They're blands not bands:

Coldplay
Snow patrol
Travis
Stereophonics
Del Amitri
David Gray

etc

except for stereophonics' first two albums, a very valid list imo.

there are a lot of acts named in this thread that started off well enough but then lost their way and fell into mediocrity.

Hmmm. I do feel the need to stamp on Alex Turner's fingers. I also feel the need to track down every journo who praised them and punch their teeth so far down their throat that they can chew toffee with their peanut.

Does that help?

Alright then: Grandaddy.

Lacklustre, low energy, boring, miserable, whinging tawdriness which features vastly unimaginative orchestration and zero musicality akin to the work of michael nyman, which I also loathe. A complete lack of texture, energy, complexity; too many block chords, dull, straightforward harmony which could have been written by a 5 year old - and that's an insult to 5 year olds - and boring melodies. Every track sounds the same. It's like being repeatedly hit by a swinging brick whilst wrapped in fibre glass loft insulation.
I just don't get them.
Thank god they've split up.

Can I add to my hatred of Coldplay and Keane then.

That Chris Martin is a scruffy whining talentless tosspot. His 'music' is such a bland overblown dirge it's unlistenable. Anyone hear them being interviewd on R4 for 'Frontrow' - the sensitive twat had some kind of nervous breakdown halfway through
and started wimpering and blubbing - bizarre behaviour. I can't understand why the scouts at the record companies didn't say 'don't give up your day job if you've ever had one because you're shoot'

And as for Keane - they're named after their nanny - Rock and Roll!
