Due to ill health I've not been abroad in over a year. I'd really like to hop over the Lanzarote. 2 things putting me off.

1.Jet Fuel shortages - a lot of reports these will start to have in impact soon

2.This new entry system - where from what I can gather finger prints are actually collected and authorised and the airports with resulting queues.

My wife has MS which means standing for any length of time isn't an option. When we book we usually get assistance at the outgoing airport - but not so sure about the overseas airports.

Thoughts ???

Fortunately, I live in Denmark. So I have quite a few countries I can get to in a days driving.

I went through the EES system in Salzburg on my ski holiday earlier this year. It was a breeze there, but I don't believe that is true at all entry points. And while it was all supposed to be fully operational by this month, I don't think it actually is.

But it wouldn't put me off going abroad, whether to a Schengen area country (which are the ones with the system) or not.

Nor would a potential shortage of jet fuel. If the flights get cancelled, we would get our money back.

MrsF did the EES system in Iceland in January. Fine. We're not going abroad this year as got too much UK holidays to do in the van - mix of camping and hotels. More worried about diesel shortages.

One visit is to my cousin at the top end of Scotland. She has been running the Post Office/fuel station in Laide for many years but they are retiring soon. If we go up before they sell, I could ask they keep a tank back for me.....

Yeah it's not the money. My wife is disabled and I'm not in the best of health. If we were to get stranded abroad I'm not sure either of us could cope with it

If worried, look at driving somewhere. The UK is beautiful. Absolutely astounded at some places we've seen along the Welsh Coast...

Oh yeah - I've gone a van down north Wales - I love it down there.

But I do fancy a bit of warm sun.

My daughter and SoL have just booked a last minute week in Majorca......they go this weekend. They HAD planned to have a week in the highlands, in the converted van but fuel increases etc meant it was cheaper to holiday in the sunshine.

Off to Seville over the first bank May holiday and Oslo potentially the second.
Hoping Seville being popular but not huge won’t be too busy.

EEA has pretty much calmed down, its only the odd queue that gets reported as "news" not the 90% of time when its working fine as that isnt a story. So as long as you avoid start of school holidays etc its not an issue. Book assistance both ways and you'll breeze thru anyway - its available at all airports, even overseas ones, its not something the UK holds a monopoly in!

I'm just back from the East Coast of the USA. Am back to the West Coast in August....and am in the process of booking up for Chicago, Illinois and then Toronto early next year.

Yes its expensive, yes you can level up the Trump effect etc etc. And while the USA may or may not be your thing - the point is prices always increase for one reason or another. And various Travel documents / requirements, other worldwide events increasing Travel prices and making Travel more 'complicated', age (For some of us making Travel more 'difficult' etc etc) - things never [Or are possibly unlikely] to get easier.

My current mantra is while i can i absolutely will - because you can make up reasons not to; until the cows come home. And the day you absolutely cannot may be upon 'you' quicker than you think.

If.....and it sounds like it is.....your thing: Go for it if at all possible i say ! Enjoy.......

But would you get the cost of your hotel booking back?
