Would you pay £12 - £20

Would you pay £12 - £20 for a vinyl album from Tescos?

  • Hell no! What a rip off!

  • Definitely! Worth it at twice the price!

  • What is this new 'vinyl' music format?

Have they solved the desperate lack of pressing facilities yet?

I kind of miss picking up the sleeves and covers but I hardly ever listened to a whole album, so used to very carefully move the arm to drop it onto the track I wanted , then set the next record out on the sleeve ready for swapping to the next track or stuck my selection on tape, all so much easier to do with MP3's, as is looking up info about the band/track and leading you onto the next influence and listening to that on Spotify. In short, vinyl is for people who's shelves haven't yet collapsed under the weight. I won't be pitching in.

I used to love the thrill of buying a new vinyl album. Taking it home and poring over the cover and the sleeve notes. Reading the lyrics and the acknowledgements.

Bringing the record out and hearing the first hiss before the music starts. Even better when you got a coloured vinyl or a picture disc.

The advent of the CD ruined that pleasure however didn't ruin my enthusiasm for the music.

Nowadays I'm a huge fan of digital media where I can take a roomful of music anywhere with me and I can also stream anything I want around the house on my Sonos system.

I loved vinyl in its day when I was a teenager however I don't think I want to go back to it today.

I bought Never Mind The Bollocks when it came out. Me and a few others into punk rock decided we'd shed blood and drip it onto the inner sleeve. We thought it was a kind of punk rock thing to do at the time. So we pricked our fingers and dripped blood on the sleeve. I dug out that LP a few months ago to see the now brown blood stains I wonder if they DNA'd the blood they could do a profile of the donors?.

I did have a charity shop upset with vinyl yesterday.

I bought Tijuana Sound of Christmas a few months back and broke it out yesterday to put the tree up.

Got it out. It was actually Cliff Richard, From a Distance: The Event. I was devastated.

Which is ironic as I am usually fine with Cliff Richard singing. From a distance.

I'd imagine that's putting it mildly?

£12?

Thats the price I was paying 15 years back

You can get new released albums on vinyl for under £15, though its usually about the £20 mark. 12" from £8 - £15.

Ive never given up on vinyl, even when the CD thing came out, I've never really bothered with downloads either, now streaming I do like, my music listening preferences nowadays is about 60% streaming and 40% vinyl

I wouldn't buy anything from Tesco, as for vinyl for me it never went away still got the majority of my Lps although I did once sell some when I was skint.
What used to make me laugh was the people who had a cheap record 'deck' that then got a CD player and said "Oh CD sounds much better", well duh, of course it does but if they'd owned a decent Turntable then it would have been different.
Mine originally looked like this
300609-thorens_turntable_td_166_mk_ii_includes_ortofon_cartridge_om_20.jpg

but has been modified to accept the TL250 arm (a Thorens badged Rega RB250)
