Following on from my first ever motivational speaking gig o have been offered a job/ share in a company.

There would be a " partner" doing nutrition ( with my eating disorder I can't ) and I'd give the motivation and workouts

It would be a weekly weigh in/ support style group session like weight watchers et el

The question is, would you pay someone like me for advice/ support / motivation or would you stick with slimming world / weight watchers ?

Based upon what I know about you I would much rather give my money to you than a coporation selling protien drinks. You have walked the walk and can talk the talk. Go for it.

Weight Watchers and Slimmer's World appear to concentrate on food and don't give very much thought to exercise. I was fat for years but only made a change when I started cycling into work. Going to a gym gave me the fitness to be able to do this, but I made the drop from 15st to 12.5st by cycling 90 miles a week. I wanted to eat healthier foods then. I didn't even think about food that much, the fat seemed to fall off me. You can't become healthier by diet alone. It's too damned hard.

I'd have more time for someone who treated the whole issue, not just concentrated on food. Sounds like an endorsement to me.

I don't want this to sound negative in any way Gaz but you should look carefully at the deal on offer.

If there are 2 of you and you are 50:50 in the ownership of the company and share of the profits then that is a good basis to start with. Anything else (say 60:40 or 70:30 etc) usually but not always leads to trouble down the road.

I'd have a word with a local accountant once details of the deal have been firmed up.

Top advice from Maggot, there... don't jump in... have a look first..
You've achieved a great thing, and obviously there's interest from peeps who've noted what you've done, but don't let yourself get ripped off... hang back a bit... see what else turns up.
As tempting as it may seem, I would say don't do it. It is all very well earning a few quid, but future opportunities with the NHS and other places could be jeopordised. Think about speaking fees and how they may be split, also think about getting into bed with someone who you say does 'nutrition'. Is that person a dietetics specialist, or have they done a weekend at Bodgit and Scarper Nutrition Supplements? Remember, Gillian McKeith has a Doctorate in nutrition!

I reckon you should carry on working with the NHS, at least they are reputable and won't dirty your achievements with spurious nutritional claims or innuendo. Also, did you take any of these supplements when you were slimming down, or is there going to be an implied link "Take these, and lose 20 stone like Gaz did", after all, you won't know what is being said if you are not there.

Be wary is my advice.
Sadly tho, the nhs ain't paying me & with my situation at home, I can't do it for free forever Tho I do agree with your sentiments
