Eh up
Fantastic place York we often go Sundays just for a wander round, the car park charges are sky high, so use the park & ride, a tip for anybody with a senior bus pass its only a £1 thats to cover the car parking,

We occasionaly take the train & visit a few of the very varied pubs, heres a pub crawl if you like that sort of thing.

For the more intelectual like myself there is Yates Wine Lodge, a days shopping has often been lost by stopping there first.

National Railway Museum, as stated is a must
The 'warehouse' is a real trawl through history (as much sociological, as anything else, with the wide-spread effect of the lines))
The workshops have an elevated walkway

How about the back-alleys???
The 'Snickleways', a great tour of the (generally) unseen, I've walked it myself in the past

This book should be found in most bookshops/newsagents

We are staying next weekend, going to a gig at the barbican YAY

Ghost walks are a good way to learn a little but they are mostly a laugh.

Little Italy is very good as well to eat

Avoid Micklegate at night, its where the groups and chav go

Cool bars?
I've been to York a few times and never found any cool bars. Plenty of good pubs though ;). I am getting old ........
