Strolling through a peaceful Victoria Tower Gardens I saw this rather handsome well proportioned tree.

521323

Turns out it was planted by the Queen in 1977 to mark her jubilee/the apotheosis of Johnny Rotten.

Makes me a feel somewhat old as that's the year before I came to London and I imagine it was planted as a sapling.

Some sort of oak?

Incredible. Where is it?
Somewhat doubtful about the info on the sign - phrases like "there can be little doubt that" always ring bells for me. Clearly very old tho - would love to see more info.the sign itself is a bit of a memorial to another age - very heavy religious preaching in it. And "true faith". Would be interested in who was behind all that - is it on church property?

Apologies Blue Hills, only just spotted this; the tree is in St Helens Church Darley Dale: https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/your-bike-in-front-of-a-church.228387/post-5995666
