Fords or water splashes are still to be found in quiet corners of this great land, do you have one near you, this one is near Scorton, Preston Lancs.

I met this one on yesterday's ride, at Kineton on the river Windrush:

It is a proper metalled road, but it descends to nature in the vicinity of the river, and I had to walk a fair way up the other side before I was confident of getting a safe start. Instead of the familiar wooden footbridge there is a stone clapper bridge, and there's another very similar ford and bridge a few hundred yards up river.
