Farm access overbridge on the 'non-official cycle path' part of the Barnard Castle to Tebay railway. Between the long gone Tees viaduct and Lartington. Out on one of the 'heritage fleet' today. Scary brakes 😬.

Why were the brakes scary?

They're not set up exactly right, the pads are ancient and I'm used to hydraulic discs! Not the bikes fault. They were fine for most of the ride, except for the steep, dusty decent through the wood from Barnard Castle to the river. I walked some of it. If I was still as light as I was years ago they might have coped 😂.

Yes, there were actually elephants there during the war pulling logs out & saving valuable fuel. I think they were from a local zoo

Riding along the Siebenmühlental (valley of the seven mills) cycleway. Cycleways on old railway lines are a rarity in this region; the local government has invested heavily in the route including fully refurbishing the two viaducts and making a lovely smooth surface for the full seven km or so. As it also has a gentle downhill grade for most of the route it makes for a very quick start to rides out of Stuttgart.
