The internet tells me that my favourite bike cafe is permanently closed. Was just about to cycle there for a pasty! I'm gutted - does anyone in the York area know why?

Not sure how you figure that given lots of empty shop space is now being occupied by cafes according to retail analysts

I blame the internet, on line shopping.
Sarah and Michael are in the process of taking over the lease for 148-150 Micklegate.
These buildings are now home to Your Bike Shed, comprising a bike repair shop at no 148 and a cycling-themed licensed café at in 150.
To see their plans come to fruition, the couple have asked City of York Council for permission to run a bar and brewery at the premises, and to extend the opening hours.
It would very much be in the fashion of a larger Fossgate Social, which they have established as an easy-going and friendly cafe during the day and bar at night.
“The Micklegate property is a good fit for a second venue along the same relaxed style,” they say in their application.
I'm not very clear what the internet has to do with a cafe and bike repair workshop closing because someone has taken over the lease and is planning to redevelop the premises as a cafe, bar and performane space.

Taking a long time to recover from that.whats next shortage of co2 is my prediction

We can all help here by getting out on our bikes and breathing harder.

I am there now. It's now more bar than cafe and the indoor bike parking has been replaced with sofas. Now looks like any other bar - York has lots of this sort of thing. Waiting for a toastie but it will have to be bloody delicious to tempt me into keeping it as a regular haunt.

That rally isnt very good and thats putting it nicely,I've been a few times and wont be going again.Theres better places to visit in York like Cycle Heaven. They do nice food as well.

I like the Rally. It got a bit overly commercialised at one point, and missed a year, but there's usually lots of our friends there and since the new 'management' took over the grass track racing is back and the entry is free again.

I'd agree that Cycle Heaven is a nice spot though. The HFR cafe does good food and cake, and there's a lot of nice people working in the business.

What's the rally?

Gathering with camping on the racecourse. It was a CTC affiliated thing - I think I first went in 2010ish? In 2014 it got cancelled, fairly last minute, and since then a local community group has taken over the reins and taken it back to its roots a bit - this is their 4th one. There's rides, stalls, catering trucks, a bar, talks, entertainments, an audax or two, and a lot of "mummy's cyclist friends off the internet". This will be the first one in ages I haven't taken the Cubs to, because they're at their dad's.

Always meant to try Cycle Heaven. Will do now.
I may be heading there myself to meet some of said cycling friends. And possibly a large ginger labrador.
