On a daybreak Woodland walk a few days ago I saw: Fallow and Muntjack deer, a Fox, Squirrels, Rabbits, a Jay, Magpies etc etc

But all I got on film was this common Pheasant. Oh my camera skills were shocking that day……..

I sometimes reflect on my attitude to different wildlife. Whilst I recognise the needs of all wildlife and have strong objections about harm, I do feel a lot more positive to some species than others. eg Pheasants - hate whatever it is in human nature that means some get such pleasure from killing them but at the same time I do wish there were not so many in the country. Whilst in the UK they date back to the Romoan they are not indigenous and do hover up much of the food needed for our indigenous species.

Round me populations kept artificially high from being bred and released to there are plenty around to be shot "for sport" (="for money"). I have 3 living in my garden (maybe more as seen two males at the same time and one male with two females at the same time). Fortunately i've planted enough hedgerow that smaller species can forage there but pheasants and vast numbers of pigeons must be taking so much of the food sought by smaller indigenous species.
