Last few days sightings
Coming back from Thorney, a village which is bordered by a vast expanse of Fenland, fields just disappear off into the distance, we saw a Mersh Harrier i believe fly low overhead, carrying something in it's talons. It meandered along the road/tree line then back across the road (we were in slow moving traffic so had a good look at it)...across a field and at that point a buzzard approached some distance away. The (probably) Marsh Harrier jettisoned or dropped it's prey and loped off.
I say Marsh Harrier because there is or was a poulation of them at Eldernell, a SSSI maybe 10 miles away as the crow flies, perfect habitat for them and it was dark brown long broad wings, just didn't have the look of Buzzard or Red Kite.
Yesterday, walking along the river Nene, a Sparroehawk flitted across in front of us.
First (probable) Cuckoo of the year on the same walk, they're like a cross between a pigeon and a hawk, long tail.
