A Huntsman spider with a mean set of fangs.

Any idea what's been digging on my, er, 'lawn'?
About 28mm in diameter I reckon, and about 75mm deep before it goes off horizontally to the right.
Rat? Vole? Mole? Snake?
Anyone hazard a guess?

I'll get some batteries for my wildlife camera and see if I can get a picture tonight.

Vole and very handy for bumblebees to nest in.

Yes I take care of a good few ant nests and they were thriving over the last 5 years, but not this year and no sign of swarming yet. Odd.

Ants seem to be recovering a bit recently. Several new nests going on my grass.

This month has been on our door frame for a good few hours

A bird has flown in our delivery door and is showing no inclination to leave, probably because it's realised it's warm and dry.

Sitting on the stoep idling away the afternoon and watched this pheasant hoovering up the crumbs from the bird feeders. Pheasant, rabbits and a young green woodpecker.

Red capped woodpecker exploded out of the hedge this morning: they are quite noisy when startled.

I'm also seeing more kestrels, which is good: there seemed to be less of them in recent years. I don't know if that's connected to the increasing numbers of Red Kites

Yay, got a 'flambé' at last... haven't seen that many about this year, even on the buddleia... and the new camera's macro did the job nicely!

Question: Can squirrels eat walnuts? I planted a walnut tree quite a few years ago and this year is the first when it's developing nuts but I have squirrels. And squirrels round me take a lot of nuts, years since I got anything from my large cob nut bushes or anything from my quite a few hazels. Anybody know if walnuts too tough?

Yep, they can eat Walnuts. They eat through bird boxes so a walnut is no problem.

I needed my longer lens really, so had to crop in to get a better view of them chilling out. Pupping season soon.

mystery critter only seen on nite camera, made a daytime appearance

anyone identify? Keep in mind it’s eastern Massachusetts

& how would we go about catching it & relocating it?
