Not seen or heard any blackbirds in the garden for a good few months there were plenty about during spring
Hoping they'll reappear soon as the seasons change and the cold sets in

Blackbirds start singing in spring to attract mate and declare territory. They generally stop in late July/August as there is no need to attract a mate or announce their territory. It is always glorious to hear them when they return and sing out their requiem to the day on summer evenings. I think I am going to ask for a recording of a blackbird singing as they carry my mortal remains out of my funeral service . . .

Well I hope that day is a long way off for you amigo. Saw four bb's in my garden last week squabbling and shrieking over the rights to the hawthorn tree. Threw them a handful of pear n apple bits and sultanas, anything to keep them coming back. Nice shiny
ink black coats on them after their moult, female about too. Agree, who can resist the vocal delight of the Blackbird

when I visit my Mother's house, now that she's living with help, elsewhere, I bring the game cameras & keep an eye on different areas. the neighborhood cat always seem to be around

inside, haven't seen anything, until now. starting about 15 October, the inside camera has been activated. only a cpl frames with anything in view of the lens. the side sensors are easily triggered. the year is off on this camera, but I fixed it after seeing this
mouse living room 10-21-25 744pm.jpg

turns out, it found some old Christmas chocolate, stuffed between the cushions. how long has it been in there? how did it get in there? adult? child? first I saw the mouse photo, then I went hunting for evidence.

used the shop vac on the whole couch around all the sides & removed all the cushions. I should clean with soapy water. soon, but first I have a project. mission elimination. left 3 cameras on & around the couch. I'll be back next week with peppermint spray & traps. too bad the neighborhood cat doesn't have a key. it can do me a favor

The brave foxes in my garden took on and killed a snake last night.

In fact I think there was a bit of overkill as the snake not only had its head bitten off but the rest of its body was badly mauled and chewed, and has lots of holes in it.

The dead snake:

Similar thing over this way, only it was a squirrel taking the garden hose to task, and leaving it with a few more 'sprinkler' holes

We have a bird table at the bottom of the garden, next to the fence which backs onto a field, the wife but some offcuts of raw bacon out, usually gone fairly quickly due to the large number of Magpies about, but I was looking out the window and a Red Kite came swooping in grabbed some with its claws in flight did a turn and flew off, I kept looking and it came back for the rest, must have remarkable eyesight as the bird table is partly obscured by trees.

say cheese. the moment one camera captures the mouse triggering another camera
couch mouse v2.jpg

during the past week, after having cleaned up the mess, the mouse came back on 4 of the past 7 days looking for the Christmas chocolate

seeing this, I did further, more thorough cleaning & then set 4 traps for the 1 night I was there, this past weekend. the 3 cameras didn't record any activity. I'll try again in a cpl weeks

I also removed all non canned food from the house, from the cupboard above the stove & pantry closet. happy not to see any signs of mouse activity! 👍

if there is no further activity in the living room I'll set the cameras up elsewhere ...
