My often taken walk today..
Family of rats (maybe 5 of them) alongside a ditch, i think they were all drinking, they were all huddled together anyway.
Jay at a distance, lovely bright colours
Cuckoo at a distance .
Goldfinches.
Cettis Warbler flitted past me after hearing its explosive song in an adjacent bush. Trouble is, theyre very 'drab' and even if you got a good look at one, you'd still be hard pressed to ID it. And theres precious little chance of getting a good look, theyre never still for more than a couple seconds.
Swans, mallard, moorhen, cost, blue tits, wood pigeon, Canada geese, buzzard and much much more...got back to the car just in time before the rain.

Probable Reed Warbler with probable Mayfly in beak as it was foraging around waterside shrubbery

To give it some context, this is a sparrow sized bird , in shrubbery, around 30ft away

Tiny innit:smile:

Shame is, the leaves in front are in almost perfect focus. If id used a smaller apeture, I might have got the bird perfectly as well. As it is, you always aim to have the largest apeture to blur the background and highlight the subject, but that limits the focal.length leading to this slightly blurry subject if your focus isnt spot on. And all these decisions to be made in seconds
It's all part of the learning process..and good fun.

The pump/fountain in the pond stands on bricks, to lift it clear of the sediment in the bottom so it doesn't suck it in and clog more frequently. Because the pond is too deep for me get in (unless I wear waders) I've fitted a loop of paracord to the lid of the pump so I can lift it out for cleaning. Most of the cord is under the steel mesh panels that serve as heron protection, but the end of it sticks out. It's a heavy lift to raise the pump and get it on the edge of the pond.
This little vandal is pulling the cord. It pulls so hard that the pump is moved off the bricks and topples over. You can hear when the noise of the fountain stops as the fountain head goes under the surface.
I had to reposition it this morning.

Getting a picture of any Warbler is impressive in my mind. They rarely keep still.
