Young Blackbird this morning scoffing berries off a Mahonia near our kitchen window while I was making the first coffee, phone was on charge and camera upstairs so no chance of a pic.

Very quiet out this morning, i do wonder if birds hunt and feed at sunrise, then settle down for a while because it was quiet, very little movement at 9.30 am.
Walked along the river , couple photos..not great but...

To the left you may just make out a young Blackbird feasting on Mahonia berries.

'Saved' a young pied wagtail yesterday.
Taking kids to school, walking back i saw a friend of my grandaughters crouched over something in the path.
Never saw a young one before, theyre (pied wagtails) not uncommon but theyre fairly boldly coloured compared to how they mature.

Gently picked it up, put it under nearby shrubbery, out the way of people, cats etc..hopefully the parents will be nearby.

That brought on the thought..id never thought where they nest ? Under house tiles perhaps, there were no trees nearby

They often nest up under river banks and the nest boxes that are under bridges are often for Wagtails.

I have one on my house in the hope they will nest in it rather than under the solar panels but the bloomin sparrows keep taking it over despite it being an open box.

Little Egret..

Id watched it take small fish and snapping at passing dragonflies..but we did see it pull a bigger fish out, maybe 4 or 5 inches long.which wriggled loose and away.

oof, what a difference, after yesterdays furnace, went out this morning before 7am, bushes and hedges were bristling with movement and birdcall...shame most of it was incessantly on the move but some wins today...
Fox, probably a vixen, there's a family group in the nearby shrubbery along the NVR railway tracks

There were two and later as i passed back that way you could hear incessant 'barking' from the scrub

Nearly nearly got a Cettis Warbler...i heard it in nearby bushes (a very distinct song), saw it cross to scrub nearby and tracked it as it flitted around, just would not sit long enough.

Heard a cuckoo, its been quiet the last couple days and i did wonder if they'd begun their migration back. Apparently not yet.
