Besides my actual home town of Brum, I have a holiday home town of Minehead in Somerset. My mother had first holidayed there post war, they honeymooned in nearby Allerford in the 50’s, they continued to holiday there throughout my childhood years and retired there in the 90’s. So I’ve known the area all my life, I certainly know it better than I ever knew Birmingham.

I mentioned Wallasey (Wirral) t'other day but failed to mention New Brighton.
As a child in the 50s I missed its hey day but saw it go into decline as the 2 open air swimming pools were closed, the open air fair ground was torn down and the Floral Hall Pavilion virtually fell apart.
In recent years a lot of money has been spent and it is well worth a day out, or 2 days as the pavilion is now really nice and has some good acts on.

They had a factory on an Industrial estate out of town, with a factory shop where I once bought a waterproof cycling jacket.

wahay - just managed to buy a Karrimor Vail Pertex off the bay - very similar to the one I bought in that factory shop and then lost.

Still got my rucksacks. It was them or Berghaus in the 70/80s. Berghaus did the yeti gaiters for use on Kinder or Bleaklow

Back in the days when they were a decent outdoor brand rather than a name cheaply used by Sports Direct.

Yes it was in Clayton Le Moors I still remember when the factory was in the town if you pass through on the Manchester road it was in the big red brick mill on there it is offices now.

Ah yes, the NCT Leyland Atlanteans (or dodgems as they were affectionately known due to their massive bumpers!) my old man used to work on them back in the day.
