Don't overthink it. One foot should be clipped in before you start so just put the other foot down on the pedal any old how until you've got the bike's rhythm going and then clip it in. It'll come with practice.

I think I may have misled with my original post and use of terminology. I don't have anything to clip in to... The pedals are these:

Ah, flat pedals. Erm, same advice applies but without clipping in. Just relax.

Edit: though, if I'm honest, I wouldn't be able to relax if I had to sit down on your new saddle...

The design is unconventional, that's true. It is rather comfortable though. My initial discomfort may be that I'm not a cycling shorts wearer... Though once I found a place to sit my arse, it was really comfy. I'm now finding going up hills a heck of a lot easier, too. I think it may have something to do with the fact that I'm now at the correct height for the bike.

Did an 18 mile (in total) out and back ride today. :bicycle::dance:

Feeling fantastic, getting more confident with the new saddle and height. Nobody beeped at me in anger.

I've rewarded myself with some cookies, and I have chocolate cake.

Here are some pictures:

I should mention that the temperature dropped six degrees and I had a bloody awful headwind on the way home. Luckily, I rode with two layers, a Goretex long-sleeved shirt and a Merino Wool jersey on top of that!

Up at 7 this morning to do my usual Saturday routine, 35KM MTB ride, 5K Park Run and 15KM MTB ride home

Decided on short sleeves and shorts today, it was little chilly from the off as I headed through Selling the sun was popping up nicely.
