40 miles night ride, went with mrs to work at bury. Set off at 9pm and went bury, Rochdale, littleborough, Blackstone edge, cragg vale, mytholmroyd, Hebden bridge, todmorden, cliviger gorge, burnley, rossendale.

Pitch black over Blackstone edge and cragg, totally deserted......just me and the road...AWESOME!!

Really chuffed with my new dynamo set up.

Bloody cold again tho!

Couldn't let a beautiful day slip by so decided a longish ride was in order. Left around 9.10am and found a couple of patches of ice. The weather was beautiful apart from a 21km headwind on the way back. I was pleased to have covered 93km, my longest ride this year.

I went out with the local club for some chaingang and race training around the local circuit. It was a little bit icey in places but good fun nevertheless. 44 miles in total.

Mileage had been light in Jan due to weather, then went on a business trip to China for ten days. Massive drinking and eating and zero exercise. Did an easy 20 Wednesday and felt ok so pushed the boat out and did a regular 58 mile/ 5,500 ft loop yesterday. Snake Pass, Abney, Froggat and back over Snake Pass.
Weather was OK and took on Snake Pass, only about 15 minutes from home. Strong tailwind but....something felt wrong....no energy and needed a gear lower than a still day. Ho hum, see how it goes. Abney is a long slow grind and into a headwind so couldn't tell how I was doing compared to usual. Choccie bar at the top was my reward. Froggat is another long gradual climb but felt ok-ish. Fast descent into Hathersage, then things started to go badly wrong. Felt thirsty, a bit hungry, a bit tired. Still about 20 miles and Snake Pass into the wind to go.
There's a cafe with about 15 miles to go and by then I was crawling. Sausage & Bacon sandwich, snickers, hot chocolate and a bottle of water.
All to no avail. Most miserable experience dragging up the Snake into a 20mph headwind. Totally shot. Strava told me it was my slowest ever ascent
Lesson learned. Don't drink bottles of 50% alcohol and massive meals for 10 days and expect your body to just accept it. Mind you, it was fun at the time
