My Sunday ride went to Picks Barn Cafe up in Rutland. I like the Rutland area as its full of shortish (3-4mins) steep climbs and I can get a bit of a workout without it getting too split up.

Yesterday, my battery extender cage torx bolts suddenly appeared to be partially undone, but fortunately I got home without issue despite being unable to tighten the bolts.

Today I got my first puncture in ~5 years, only to discover my glue tube was literally full of air and no glue! Fortunately, it was a slow one, so I could periodically stop and top-up the front tube while abandoning my route and gingerly heading home.
I remembered my multitool with torx bit today!

What has destiny got planned for my next ride? 🤪

My ride yesterday, as the mifi connection was so bad I couldn't upload photos. What is it with this country I travel extensively in Europe and very rarely can I not get a signal, even in some quite remote spots you can get 5G yet here there are big gaps and 4G at best outside large towns and cities. Anyway enough gripping my ride around 20 miles interspersed with a visit to Culzean Castle, a bit of shopping and a coffee stop.

Perfect cycling weather at last! Warm and sunny in this part of Gloucestershire today, but with a gentle cool breeze. I set off for a morning 50km ride, heading out via Whitminster, Eastington, (where I opted for a detour up a short but very steep little hill on Church Lane), Frocester and Kings Stanley to do one of my favourite climbs up the Cotswold escarpment to Middleyard. First stop a quick bit of shade and a glug of water in a bus shelter opposite the Frocester George:
View attachment 815367 The Middleyard climb was the first route up the escarpment that I ever managed, and it is still within my capabilities today as it goes up in three separate steps, giving you just enough recovery time between exertions. The views across to Whiteshill, Randwick and Ruscombe are amazing, and I often stop there to watch deer grazing in the valley below. It was looking very parched today, as Gloucestershire has been like a blast furnace lately.

I turned around and coasted back down the hill and retraced my route past Frocester and stopped for a milk shake and a flapjack at the Eastington Farm Shop Cafe before heading home via Frampton, Fretherne and Elmore. 31.3 miles today. Lovely.

Haha I thought I was the only idiot rider to tackle that climb from Church Lane! I like the climb up from Kings Stanley through Middleyard, if you ride up The Grove opposite Selsley church and onto the common you've done the same height gain as going up Frocester hill (which is popular as a Strava segment) but in a shorter distance and with much less chance of being squashed by the lorries from the tip thundering up and down

My top tip for visiting riders: the ride up through Middleyard is much safer and just as much a challenge as Frocester Hill or alternatively turn right in Frocester and ride into and through Coaley turning left at the end of the village to go up Levers Hill which is the climb that comes out at the top of Frocester Hill - it is much steeper than Frocester Hill as it goes straight up the hill!
If you fancy yourself as a mountain goat then go through Coaley into Uley via Fop Street then straight on at the crossroads takes you up Lampern Hill which is a good climb, very little traffic and I think was used by the Dursley CC for a hillclimb event.

Today's bimble was a slightly longer way to the farm shop. I wanted, also, to see how the new road to a huge area of new-builds was getting on. It's still a mess and not suitable for a road bike. OK on my CX if I took it gently, though..

Kings Heath still has car problems..

Bus stops, too! 🔥

Anyway, nice to get out for an hour or so and get some fresh veg for dinner in the way..

I did visit a trig point on Brampton Hill farm on mt way round.. Not been there before and it took a while to find it buried in a hedge..

11 miles in lovely weather. Not too hot with a gentle breeze.
