As I had to drop my car off for some work on Brackmills, Hamtun, I thought I'd ask how long the job was booked for.. 3 hours, apparently..
Just time to get the Brommie out of the boot, pedal to Riverside Retail Park to return some trainers that had fallen apart; call in to have a chat with granddaughter then through town to Duston to give a mate some brake pads, in exchange for a cuppa, as they don't fit my bike.

All in all, a pleasant but hot & sweaty 25 miles 🔥

Three of us were out for the Thursday night group ride tonight. One bloke wasn't feeling good but he done well to hang on to the pub. He forgoed the pub though. I probably done 70% of the work but I was needing to generate heat though. My other plucky mate keeps on coming through though even when he could do with the rest 💪 so I can confidently smash it for long periods knowing I can recover in his wheel 👍

Unplanned ride home yesterday due to train shenanigans ;kept it steady and a couple of stops on the way as it was so hot.

Re-vamped Faran super smooth with the Ultegra/105 and the TA chainrings shifted smoothly on the Hope crank and spider.

Roasting!
40miles with 3300ft climbing and it was tough going
99.9% of rides I'm trying to stay in the sun, this morning I was aiming for shade whenever possible. Sticking close to hedges etc. Lovely though

Despite it being very hot here yesterday (it was 34C when I started my ride), it was cooler under the trees on the Voie Verte. I had no particular destination in mind as I headed south – I just wanted to make sure the ride total was over 50km.

Over the canal south of Ploërmel – idiotic teenagers throwing themselves into the water … you can’t tell them – they just don’t understand the meaning of the word ‘dangerous’. Over 100 deaths by drowning in France this year – but kids keep diving into the canal.

Left the Voie Verte at Chapelle Caro and meandered on a quiet road down to le Ponty .. curious placename: perhaps it’s a corruption of pontille, meaning footbridge? Rejoined the Voie Verte and back to la Touche Carné and a brief diversion to visit the manoir. Never been here before despite cycling past it hundreds of times.

Heading back up the long slope towards Ploërmel when the problems started – the back tyre was bumping: gave it a pinch and it was very deflated. No pump with me and no phone (I’ve no idea who I could have rung anyway). Got to Loyat and the tyre was completely flat. Walked and cycled very slowly for the last 13kms back to the van. Went to the LBS this morning and talked to Tony – perhaps it’ll mean a new tyre .. but more importantly, I’ll be better prepared should this ever happen to me again (the first time I’ve had this problem a longish way from home in over 10 years of cycling).

62.36km in just over 4 hot hours

Lots of this going on – I reckon over the half the wheat has now been harvested and they’ve also made a start on the colza (rape) – and it’s not even the middle of July

All time epic tandem ride for us: our first century.

A flat start across the Cheshire Plain and lovely cool path through the woods alongside Rudyard Lake. Then the hardest part of the ride through the Staffordshire moors: Horse Bridge, Cheddleton and then Ipstones where we discovered a wonderful community cafe with fabulous amazing value food and great views. Highly recommended.

Thence to Ashbourne (ice cream #1) and up most of the length of the Tissington trail. Lovely but leaves a residue...

A rapid descent to Bakewell where we intended to take the Monsal Trail for cool tunnels, mild gradients and great scenery. Disaster - shut at the Monsal viaduct! A pause for replanning (ice cream #2) resulted in a tough climb from Bakewell to Chelmorton then Brierlow Bar for recuperative espressos and flapjack.

Finally, up the Cat and Fiddle, and a wonderful exhilarating and hot descent to Macclesfield, then home.

101 miles, 1900m climbing at a surprisingly quick 12.5 mph.

50km Solo ride this am. With a very early start to avoid the heat. Which then didn’t materialise 🤣

Was headwind pretty much all the way out to Caister. And at that point I’d averaged not much more than 14mph average. However got it back to 16.1mph at the finish - which is the best time / speed I’ve done 50km in on this bike (Me and bike = 120kg combined. And me sitting literally bolt upright too……).

So that’s good. As is the fact the more I cycle (I’m now doing fairly regular 25-30 mile commutes too) i literally need no recovery time / don’t feel it at all after - albeit on quite a short distance compared to many of you guys.

Quick lap of Lowestoft Town this Morning - before the planned long walk of the dog.

I saw a quote of how many Thursdays 🤷‍♂️ until Xmas last week. So this seemed topical. To me anyway. Are you ready ? 🤣

**And yes that’s the Moon still in shot on the second picture 😉

Lowestoft Council are offering Tennis, Swimming, Running, various park hire, cycling activities etc etc and even bike repairs FREE OF CHARGE long term going forward - to promote health / sport 👍

So this is part of that drive. And is currently being moved around the Town to capture attention from what I’ve seen:

The lovely Kensington gardens. Inc bowling greens and newly surfaced tennis courts that you can book FOC as noted above 😁

Where’s Wally ?

Cloudy, but nice temps - and unsurprisingly quiet 🤣 Enjoyed that. And got me to 200k for the Month as early as I can remember 👍
