Hot day so got out early and kept to more shady lanes. I headed through the Yealands and the AONB to Milnthorpe, then up the Lyth valley to Brigsteer. Coffee stop was courtesy on national trust Sizergh castle which was in chaos as the car parking machine wouldn’t take cards or notes! I continued back and decided to make a second stop in Milnthorpe to buy scones for afternoon tea at home. Great views of river Kent and the estuary. 85 km with 895 m of climbing.

Pictures of Kent estuary and higher up the river where solution weathering had made a lovely rock bed channel.

Took me a while to warm up today but the Sunday group ride was fun and the new 28mm wide tubeless tyre was faultless.

I was tempted to go out for a gravel ride after but I settled in front of the TdF but I think I've missed the action and the last 140km has been a snooze fest!

Estivating .... my word of the day. It's what I've been doing for the last few days rather than cycling or, heaven forbid, gardening. Today I deliberately left it until just before rain was due to nip out for a ride. A nice cool breeze and a gentle shower of cold drizzle hit me after a few miles and it was wonderful. Just what I've been dreaming of for the last few days while I was estivating in a state of torpor. Just a 21 miler out to Standish and back via Saul Junction, but nice to be out there turning the pedals again.

You posted this at 8.57am. 8 hours later and certain people here are still as left quivering wrecks. Shells of their former selves; due to the fact 0.33km further would have made this a 50k ride 🤣

Hope you enjoyed . If anything like ‘here’ you sure had a warm one…….

And they would be totally justified. I hadn't noticed, but now that you've pointed it out I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep.

Almost 8 years later, it's still etched in my memory that a mate did the Wiggle New Forest 99.7, his longest! :stop::laugh:

It has been brought to my attention that my recent actions may have caused some of you distress and sleepless nights. For this, I am whole heartedly sorry. It was never my intention, I like many of you, just wanted to enjoy an afternoon's ride in the nice, although very hot, summers sun.
In the future, I will do my very best to never replicate such an act.
Once again, I am truly sorry for any stress caused.
Yours sincerely
