Back to Barmouth to have a better ride on a more suitable bike, today.
The weather was lovely and even though my mate and I are quite unfit, we pretty much smashed it, albeit slowly. I stopped at few time half-way or at the top of the hills, but it was pointless breaking myself for a pleasure ride. It actually went far better than I thought, and the Dolgellau stop was a last minute addition. Glad we went there as had a v.nice bacon and egg sandwich at a cafe there.
A Z1/2 Recovery Session for me tonight down to the old Conington Airfield for what is normally a traffic free loop except tonight for some reason a 7m artic lorry decided to turn into it before I did and promptly got stuck.
Fortunately he stopped to try and figure out if he could do a turn in this junction and I got by.
He then appeared again and I went Z4 for a bit to a narrower and twistier bit of the road which goes over a narrow bridge. Good Luck to him getting over that!
Down to Conington Airfield again for another training session and thing we're back to normal in terms of traffic. Thunderstorms were predicted so I shortened the 90mins session to a 60mins one but although I felt sporadic moisture blowing in the wind I would have been fine.
6-8 weeks ago I’d lost my Cyclng mojo. I did an odd ride. And twice made an effort to complete the CycleChat 50k Monthly Challenge…..
Now I’m firmly hugely enjoying it again (Spills and all; a-la the ride in today 😁). Am commuting 25-30 miles a couple of times a week - and looking forward to one exploring ride at the weekends. Infact I was really disappointed to see the wet forecast for this coming weekend ⛈️
Extra miles = extra strength and stamina of course. And even a little extra speed (For me….a very short ride too of course…..but it’s all relative - and this is faster than have been) 😉
Out on the Tricross yesterday at 3pm. I thought I’d give the Strava Gran Fondo challenge a bash. The first 50 miles were ok but the last 14 were a bit of a struggle. I’d been in Paris for 5 days only returning on Tuesday evening and walked over 40 miles in the cities heat, I think that was catching up with me!
Anyway, I eventually limped home, 64.2 miles with an average of 14 mph.
