Have kept indoors during the heatwave but with lower predicted temperatures for today I plucked up courage and went out for a couple of hours. Roads round here have started to melt and heavy vehicles have removed vast quantities of melted tarmac. Hundreds of sizeable holes ripped out of the surface to add to the already huge number of potholes. The black goo began to stick to the tyres, which then sucked up any surrounding gravel making the ride a PITA. Oh, and despite the forecast for cooler weather it was over 30C.

It was supposed to cool down for my group ride today, it did but only to 31deg C. So I was glad when my mate suggested the usual pub stop. Doh we were nearly 20mins before opening time 🤦‍♂️ So we pressed onto the next as it should have been open by the time we got there and its quite a nice pub anyway. It wasn't though and after 10mins it didn't look like it would be so we moved on to a bigger pub. Fortunately it was open and we had a pint there.

All roads I’ve ridden - but again: not in this order to form a 50km loop (For a point in the 50k Challenge here 😁).

Humid start to the day - even at 3.45am when I left…… 🔥 😳

Up the Coast / heading North to Gorleston in Norfolk first thing:

Then a long loop inland. Back past my own house - and onto Oulton Broad:

The Rolling Hills of Suffolk…….. 🤣🤣🤣

And finishing - as I often do - with a jaunt down Lowestofts Promenade:

That done - I’ve got the day to myself 👍

I was ready to go out at 0630 this morning, which was the moment the rain started. The shower passed by 0645 so I headed off westwards. Through Bishop's Hull and out to Oake.

Decided to go out to Halse, near where I took this photo of the Quantocks.

Through Bishop's Lydeard, where people were emerging from their homes and jumping in their cars, and then homewards through Kingston St Mary and back into Taunton.

A very pleasant couple of hours
